The coaches are with these kids every day and know whats best. I dont think they would hold back any of the other QB opitions from playing if they thought they could do it. There obivsouly not ready to play.

I don't care who the QB is but when they line up and then call the play with 10 seconds on the play clock... its not gonna work. Then we think an 18 year old kid could handle it ? I don't think so.

Coming to the line of scrimmage and then checking the play is part of the UK coaching staff's strategy to see what scheme the defense is in, and then call a play that is best suited against that defense.

Exactly, Woodson was nortious for doing this.

It was and wasn't. The offense put in by those guys was similar, BUT those guys are horrible head coaches who cared little about defense/special teams or anythings else. Brooks is a very good HC and has everything else up to par.

 

That offense is not built on 4-5 star talent, its built on leftovers from Texas, Florida and California.........kinda of like what UK gets.

 

Hartline is not that bad, he might even be better than the guy running TT right now.

You said you wanted something like Leach. He learned his nonchalant defensive ways while at UK. Very few college spread offensive guys care about defense as well. Meyer, Kelly and who else? Leach was at UK. They won some with him as OC, but not even at the level Brooks is at.

 

Joker is a good offensive mind, you just cannot do much with Hartline. Meyer would do well to score with him as a QB.

True, but Meyer would absolutely try someone other than Hartline. JMO.

Whether players are saying it or not, and it's likely that some have at least hinted that something needs to change, UK definitely needs to do something at the QB position.

 

How Mike Hartline is a starting SEC QB i'll never know. He hasn't improved, as Rich Brooks has stated. If anything, he has gotten worse IMO.

 

If this means that Cobb needs to step in at QB then so be it. We have better WR's this year anyway. He is a playmaker, Hartline is not. Something needs to be addressed because Hartline and his inability to make smart decisions in the pocket are killing this Kentucky team.

 

I can't add anything to this. Hartline just is not a leader and imo your qb must be a leader. I just don't think that this team has any confidence in Hartine under center. Cobb is one of if not the best athletes on this team, simply put imo you get the fooball in the hands of your best athlete as many times as possible. Other than the center, the qb touches the football more than anyone else. Hartline is FAR from the best athlete, imo he is not even close to the best qb. Should Hartlie not have he first option available then he is lost, looks like a "deer in the headlights" and cannot make a play with his athletic ability bc quite frankly he has very little athletic abibility.

I know they have been doing it for a while. It has not been very good the last couple of years because this is not Woodson, Little, Burton, Tamme, & Johnson. BIG DIFFERENCE !!

Morgan Newton is a drop-back, pro-style quarterback who also just happens to be a great athlete who can run. Im not sure why people think he is just a scrambler with a big arm, thats not who he is. Newton is PERFECT for the type of offense Joker and company want to run.

 

I had been thinking that. What I had seen of him he is an athletic kid but I thought he was more of a pocket guy as well. I think he has the ability to run, but as far as I've seen he is a pass 1st Quarterback. Then again I haven't seen that much of him, and what I have seen is just tape so I can't really say one way or another. :idunno:

Of course Meyer would probably move Cobb there and let Newton get some minutes IMO. But, I don't see him moving to Lexington anytime soon.

I'm just annoyed because everyone acts like a true freshmen QB has never started before, it's not like he would have limited resources. He would have Cobb, Matthews, Conner, Locke, Allen, and Drake to rely on. Just let him have a chance. I am so sick of watching Hartline drop back and throw a deep ball away or dump it off for two yards.

I agree. I don't think Newton or "Moss" could do any worse than Hartline. I think they may make a few more mistakes, but I think they would also make more big plays.

And Hartline isn't? Insert Randall Cobb then.

Still, I don't know that we have a real solid backup plan. I just have heard Newton isn't realistically anywhere near being the next best choice at this time.

What else can he play? He has a reported 40 time of a high 4.5, but from what I've seen he isn't close to that. He's a quarterback, he's a frosh and needs work like most do as frosh.

Alright, I personally think that the argument that Newton doesn't fit the offense is a horrible argument. IF you think he is a pocket passer Which I do), then he is great for the system, and if he is a scrambler, why does he not fit? If I am correct, we banked on Pulley being the starter and thats why we can't blame Hartline, but was Pulley not a scrambler? It seems like we had an offense for him and he was going to be the fit so I don't see what the problem with Newton is in our system. He may not be ready but give him a shot.

I said I wanted a OC like Leach with Brooks as HC, I would take Leach as HC if Brooks left.

 

 

 

Leach is like 79-42 at a school that is very similar to UK football wise. BCS conference and about same in the pecking order.

How can any fan say Newton is not ready? Yeah, he is young but they are a lot of freshman QB's playing this year and doing very way. I mean Tebow did not play a lot when he was a freshman but they got him ready for next year. He played about 10-15 snaps again. I just think Newton needs to be used like this.

 

How can any fan say that he is ready? Honestly, unless we see them everyday in practice and meetings, how can we possibly judge? We can't because we simply don't have all the information that we need to make that decision. Right now the coaches believe that Hartline is the best option and none of us have the experience with these kids to understand if they are right or wrong. I am not ready to throw Hartline under the bus. UK killed themselves with penalty after penalty in the first quarter and nearly every one (it seemed) was on a big play. I respect your opinion on a possible use for Newton, but who knows if either of the freshman are ready to be thrown in the fire just yet. Just over a month ago, they were both 'lost' according to the staff, but that is typical of college freshman. I will have to defer to the coaches on this one.
