When you fell behind 2-3 touchdowns with Woodson, or Lorenzen, or Bonner, and of course, Couch, you still knew you had a chance to score some points and come back.

 

When UK fell behind 21-0, it was over. Hartline isn't the kind of quarterback to put a team on his back and bring them from 10-14 points down and win an SEC game. And because UK is prone to get behind early against SEC teams, that's what UK needs a quarterback.

I don't care who the quarterback is, if you fall behind 21-0 against the best team in the country you are beat. Especially if you have no prayer of stopping the run.

I blame Joker's conservative play-calling about as much as anything else. He has no clue to get the ball to the guys that must have the ball in SEC games.

I love Joker but you're right. I wonder if that's not a reflection though of what Brooks is trying to do. I think Joker has proven to be a good playcaller, I just don't think they have faith in Hartline.

I'm not sure where the plays are coming from, but for the last two seasons, they have looked like they're scared to get first downs.

For Kentucky to ever have a shot at making noise in the SEC they have to do something similar to Texas Tech. You have to have an offense that scores points and Joker and his scheme is not that.

C'mon. The Texas Tech Air Raid was at UK, and that's where it became big time. Hal Mumme, Mike Leach, Tony Franklin, etc. they were here. It had success, but not at the level that Brooks has had here.

 

I think when Joker's offense is really being run it's very good. I don't remember too many having a problem when Woodson, Lyons, Burton, Tamme, etc. were lighting up scoreboards (at least by SEC standards).

 

They guys just do not have faith in Hartline. I say go with one of the young guys and give them experience. I don't think Newton is bad/inexperienced enough to make UK that much worse. If they feel like he can be the man for the future play him now, the record will be about the same. If he's a player UK could have a pretty good offense next season with Locke, Cobb, Matthews and an athletic QB.

You can only call plays that you are comfortable with your QB handling. Joker has limited options because Hartline isn't a very good QB. He should have never started 1 game at UK and it's all on Rich Brooks and the rest of the recruiting class for this happening. You have to prepare better as a team and judge your QB depth better in order to ever have a strong SEC team.

You're correct. An offense starts with the QB. Along with that comes really good WR recruits who know they'll get the ball but if they see a team with a bad QB and a bad track record in conference play then they are likely to go elsewhere. Hartline is an era that many UK fans want to forget, not because he's a bad person, although he did throw the team under the bus last season, but because he isn't the kind of QB that should be starting in the SEC.

Hartline is flat out terrible. I would love for someone else to get a shot.

I called it a month ago that UK was in trouble with Hartline, their d-line, and their kicking game and no one listened to me.
