Fiedler, although it was mop-up time, looked more comfortable in the pocket, is quicker, scrambles better and has a stronger arm than Hartline. Maybe it's time to give him some time earlier in games to see what he can do.

All of your observations are accurate, but the UK coaching staff is not sold on Will Fidler and seem determine to NOT give him any snaps at quarterback.

 

The UK staff is committed to a drop-back, pro style quarterback, and folks, I will tell you this offense does not fit Morgan Newton. Right now, if Morgan was put into a ballgame he would go back to pass, count to one thousand and two, and take off running. He is a good athlete and the UK offense that Joker Philllips and Randy Sanders are determined to stay with, is a total mismatch to Morgan Newton as a quarterback.

 

When the Hartline era plays out, if Ryan Mossakowski's shoulder is healthy, he will have the best opportunity to take over at quarterback. The UK offense totally fits his natural abilities.

True or not Hartline does not need to be the QB. You say the offense doesn't fit Newton, but it doesn't fit Hartline either. He looks scared. I'd rather have Newton running than Hartline throwing. At least with Newton it would switch up the gameplan a little bit.

Morgan Newton is a drop-back, pro-style quarterback who also just happens to be a great athlete who can run. Im not sure why people think he is just a scrambler with a big arm, thats not who he is. Newton is PERFECT for the type of offense Joker and company want to run.

C'mon. The Texas Tech Air Raid was at UK, and that's where it became big time. Hal Mumme, Mike Leach, Tony Franklin, etc. they were here. It had success, but not at the level that Brooks has had here.

 

I think when Joker's offense is really being run it's very good. I don't remember too many having a problem when Woodson, Lyons, Burton, Tamme, etc. were lighting up scoreboards (at least by SEC standards).

 

They guys just do not have faith in Hartline. I say go with one of the young guys and give them experience. I don't think Newton is bad/inexperienced enough to make UK that much worse. If they feel like he can be the man for the future play him now, the record will be about the same. If he's a player UK could have a pretty good offense next season with Locke, Cobb, Matthews and an athletic QB.

 

It was and wasn't. The offense put in by those guys was similar, BUT those guys are horrible head coaches who cared little about defense/special teams or anythings else. Brooks is a very good HC and has everything else up to par.

 

That offense is not built on 4-5 star talent, its built on leftovers from Texas, Florida and California.........kinda of like what UK gets.

 

Hartline is not that bad, he might even be better than the guy running TT right now.

Bottom line Hartline's time should be cut down tremendously. Fidler needs a shot, I feel like Hartline is scred for hid life in the pocket and he is not an athlete at all. That plays an especially big role when in the SEC.

I don't care who the QB is but when they line up and then call the play with 10 seconds on the play clock... its not gonna work. Then we think an 18 year old kid could handle it ? I don't think so.

Everyone seems to forget that Woodson had Burton, Johnson, Tamme who are all in the NFL. Not to mention Little. We do not have the personnel to do what that bunch did. IMO call the play and run the play !

I haven't been to a practice but I'm guessing that if they thought he could handle it they would give him his shot.

Start Morgan Newton. With his dual threat ability and Cobb and Locke in the lineup this offense has the potential to be very explosive. And why should the "Wildcats" try the "Wildcat" offense with Newton, Locke, and Cobb?

I'm not saying they should have. I'm just saying Hartline wasn't envisoned as their man three to four years ago

Things happen. It is what it is and UK is stuck with Hartline right now. UK fans are just going to have to be patient this season and hope that one of the young guys will be ready to step in next season. Hartline gives them little margin for error...the defense has to play well and the entire team has to capitalize on its opportunities.

 

I don't know how much of a difference one of the freshmen could make at QB, but considering the schedule, the SEC, and their inexperience, it's definitely questionable whether it would help enough to justify wasting a redshirt. I'll leave that decision up to the coaches and I trust that they'll make the correct one, whatever it may be.

 

This is all part of the process, IMO. UK hasn't arrived to the point where they can absorb unexpected losses and keep rolling as expected. The aforementioned QB's...the loss of Jarmon...etc.

 

I still like what I see from Brooks and company. And, I still love Joker as an OC and play-caller.
