Ryle 28 Conner 12 (Frosh)

Game Recap - Ryle just over matched Conner, but it didn't look that way at the beginning. Conner jumped out 6-0 after a Ryle fumble gave Conner excellent field position. Conner's #7 Drew Barker was clearly the best player for Conner on both sides of the ball. For Ryle, the same old thing - Run with authority. #24 Tanner Pulice led the Raiders with strong running inside and out. Probably had 150 yds rushing and a very athletic one-handed catch for a TD to seal the victory.

Pulice did get injured in the 2nd quarter so he left the game until the 2nd half, re-entering to play the 3rd quarter before Ryle gave way to their twos. In his absence, Pavy carried the load with strong running between the tackles. Defensively, Ryle is very strong - #20 Daniel Osborne continued his streak of games with at least one interception. #7 Tom Deters (an 8th grader) led the Ryle middle Linebacker corp and #2 Will Bloom patrols the defensive end position - getting in on numerous tackles and recording a sack on the elusive Barker. Overall, both teams committed way too many penalties, but Ryle just has too many horses.

Ryle made way to many mistakes. But defense shut down Connor pretty good after the first 2 series . If Ryle can get back to error free football, they are going to be tough to beat. It will be a good one next thur. at Ryle when SK comes to visit.

Full agreement here. Ryle just to strong on both sides of the ball. This is a very good group of freshman. Game was very sloppy early with numerous penalties by both teams. If you wanna beat Ryle, you better learn how to contain the outside, that seemed to be where most of the damage was done. Scary to think what this team would have been with Nick Brown. Don't see Ryle losing a game this season.

Both teams very sloppy. The best team won without a doubt. Conner has huge issues with lines on both sides of the ball. The look scared, confused or both. Ryle dominated their right side all night. Conner was trying to run a 4-4 and convert to a 5-3 before the snap. Several times Ryle snapped the ball while Conner was in adjust mode. Ryle could have gained 6 yrds a carry over their right side without blocking anyone, it looked like Conner was trying to run stunts and left huge holes in the B & C gap. Poor tackling from Conner resulted in big gains and momentem shifts.

QB for Conner actually threw 2 interceptions and several other poorly thrown passes, due to pressure from the defense. It looks like Conner does not have the athletes for the spread offense, QB has trouble making correct decisions, line has trouble holding blocks, receivers are slower than expected. Maybe Conner needs to run a traditional style of offense if they want to win on the Freshman level.

Love a good game report as much as anyone on here, but I think it's important to be accurate especially when it involves stats. The rest doesn't matter because it's strictly your opinion. Conner's QB threw one interception, not two, and it was due to a wrong route by the receiver. As far as changing their offense, not going to happen. The most important thing for the freshman players at Conner right now is to begin learning all of the nuances that come with this sophisticated offense. It's not about winning or losing, it's about being ready when they are varsity players. Not sure if you have seen Conner's varsity run this offense, but it works out pretty well. Keep it real.

The varsity has different athletes that can perform.

Thanks for making my point. The current varsity players were not very good as a freshman team either, because they were learning the offense. It's all about developing your players at this level. Not sure what ax you have to grind here?

No axe. Just stating facts. The current varisty seniors were a very good Freshman team. They actually played Highlands in the Freshman Championship.

Disregard....got my years mixed up.

Why run a system at the freshman level simply because you think it might help you win games when you will not be running that at the varsity level?

Freshman football is for development. We place way too much emphasis on wins and losses.

My point is maybe this group of athletes will not be able to run an effective Spread offense at the varsity level. From what I have heard the current JV squad does not run it very well either. A QB like West only comes around on rare occasions. Sometimes a coach needs to change styles of play based on talent ability??

If you don't play to win, why keep score? Then no one would have anything to post about.

It's Friday, let's go watch some football.
