My point is maybe this group of athletes will not be able to run an effective Spread offense at the varsity level. From what I have heard the current JV squad does not run it very well either. A QB like West only comes around on rare occasions. Sometimes a coach needs to change styles of play based on talent ability??

Here's where I find fault in your argument. I'll go out on a limb and say none of these freshman (or 8th graders in Barker's case) have ever ran a spread offense. I'll also go out on a limb and say that every one of them is going to get bigger, faster, and stronger - requirements needed to run the spread. So, why would a varsity coach base his future offensive philosophy on how well or poorly boys run it as freshman when we all know they are not finished development both physically and mentally?

 

Lastly, your argument fails to take into account that when you have a freshman team you are pretty much limited to that one grade. As you obviously know offensive execution is based on all 11 players. At the varsity level, you're not limited to one grade's worth of players. Instead, you have 3 grades (4 in some cases) to choose the best of the best from. So your "unit" gets stronger. The frosh team can have many of the key components required for the future unit but by the limitations of only having one grade of players you have the likelihood that a few of the positions are not manned by players who are good enough today. Therefore, the unit fails. So, using the outcome of the freshman unit as a basis for saying it will not work down the road is not sound logic.

WOW - a lot of words for a freshman game! I too was at this game yesterday - yes, Queen is offering some opinions, but anyone who is on here does the same thing. It is for development, but it is also about the wins - these freshman came from PeeWee where you win at all costs...to tell them it just doesn't matter as freshman is not realistic.

 

QB is a true 8th grader and MIGHT develop into a Nick West look alike - right now, he is a West-want-to-be with a chance to grow. It will be interesting to see if he moves to JV next year as a freshman or stays at frosh ball.

 

I do not agree that Barker is best on the field on D - in fact, there were a few missed tackles where he stayed on the ground instead of getting back up and trying to get back intot eh play. It might be too much for this 8th grader to go both ways all plays. Kuhnkle by far at MLB can dominate when he chooses to. (By the way, he follows in his Dads footsteps on the football field).

 

Bottom line is that Conner frosh has no line on O or D that is effective - and that is a very VISIBLE point each game. Runs of more than 5 yards are only due to skill of QB and RB's.

 

By the way, Queen's analysis and reporting is 50% factual and 50% fiction - you can figure out which is which (and that is just my opinion!!!!)

Ryle's just too big up front - and with thier running game, I don't see it as being a close game. SK hasn't played the same level of competition as Ryle thus far.

Full agreement here. Ryle just to strong on both sides of the ball. This is a very good group of freshman. Game was very sloppy early with numerous penalties by both teams. If you wanna beat Ryle, you better learn how to contain the outside, that seemed to be where most of the damage was done. Scary to think what this team would have been with Nick Brown. Don't see Ryle losing a game this season.
