GO CATS
Which was the more historic election? I think Obamas was considering he was the first black president and the way he involved younger voters.... http://www.wlap.com/cc-common/news/sections/newsarticle.html?feed=104668&article=4541236

mcpapa
Infinitely more historic. 42 years after the last poll tax laws were stricken from the books, a man of color is elected President. One of the top two or three political events in my ifetime.
shooter
Isn't it a bit early to be judging an Obama presidency?
True blue (and gold)
The question is on election, not presidency.
rockmom
Isn't it a bit early to be judging an Obama presidency? Not if you go by all the posts who declared him a socialist who was going to send his baby storm-troopers into our homes to seize our guns and enact a limit on the number of children we could have before he was even elected.
75center
Don't recall Reagan's being all that historic so I'll pick Obama.
shooter
The question is on election, not presidency. The article said Obama re-wrote the electorial map. How do they know that? If you looking at the number of states that changed from the Republican to the Democratic column, then Jimmy Carter "re-wrote" the electorial map more than Obama did. How did that turn out? Habib
Don't recall Reagan's being all that historic so I'll pick Obama. Yeah, I'm not quite certain what was historic about Reagan's win. Presidency? Yes. Election? He beat Jimmy Carter.
shooter
The article also said it was historic because Obama had been elected to the Senate just 4 years earlier. Well.....Abraham Lincoln lost his bid to be a Senator just 2 years before he was elected president. The article also said it was historic because he received more votes than anybody ever. Well... Obama certainly did manage to motivate people to vote for him but just four years ago George Bush had received more votes than any other previous president so in that sense this election is continuing an existing trend of increased voter turnout and increased overall population of the US. There is no doubt that the first black president is a historic first. However, most of the remaining points of the article are questionable. HHSDad
Don't recall Reagan's being all that historic so I'll pick Obama. Agreed. A better comparison would be Obama to Kennedy.

mcpapa
Agreed. A better comparison would be Obama to Kennedy. Exactly. Lots of folks in 1960 thought that a Catholic could never be elected President. Similar situation this time around. You heard it here first. In another 48 years, in the election of 2056, The Divided States of America will replace the 1960 and 2008 election as the most historic of all time. The APHCSA (Association of Pointy-Headed Coastal States of America) will elect the first transgenderist President; while the CGTRCSA (Confederation of Gun-Totin' Religion Clingin' States of America) will elect 114 year-old Mitch McConnell as their President.
