theguru Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JUNE 24, 2024 The Kentucky High School Athletic Association introduced the newest addition to its staff on Monday with the hiring of Assistant Commissioner Abby Jackson. "Abby brings a wealth of experience in coaching, student services, and athletics administration to the staff as we head into this next phase of championship expansion and continued service to our member schools and students who are enrolled in them," said KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett. "We were presented with a deep pool of outstanding applicants who did a fantastic job during the interview process, and the existing senior leadership team gleaned a lot from those extended sessions. In the end, Abby certainly impressed our leadership team in her interview sessions and seems an ideal fit for our staff.” Jackson’s duties will include serving as the primary event director for various sport and sport-activity championships, providing services to member schools and the general public by supplying information and proper application of the KHSAA constitution and bylaws, competition rules, procedures and regulations. The newly created fifth KHSAA Assistant Commissioner position was formally approved by the KHSAA Board of Control last February as the KHSAA expands its championship sanctioning with the sports of boys’ volleyball and boys’ and girls’ lacrosse, beginning with the 2024-25 school year. Jackson joins the KHSAA from Bryan Station High School, where she has served as Athletic Director since 2018 and Dean of Students since 2022. With nearly two decades of experience as a Kentucky educator, administrator and girls’ basketball coach, Jackson was named the Kentucky Athletic Administrators Association 11th Region Athletic Director of the Year in 2021. "I’m honored and excited to join the KHSAA as the new Assistant Commissioner and continue to support high school athletics across the state," said Jackson. "I’m grateful to Bryan Station for providing me the opportunity to lead their athletic department over the past six years. It has been a privilege to be a part of the Defender family." A graduate of Breckinridge County High School, Jackson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Kentucky in 2006. In 2014, she earned a Master of Science in Education from Eastern Kentucky University. Jackson graduated from EKU once again in 2021, earning a Specialist in Education in Instructional Leadership for a Level I Certification of Principal, Supervisor of Instruction and Director of Pupil Personnel.
