SAN FRANCISCO - In a monumental victory for the gay rights movement, the California Supreme Court overturned a voter-approved ban on gay marriage Thursday in a ruling that would allow same-sex couples in the nation's biggest state to tie the knot.

 

Domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage, the justices ruled 4-3 in an opinion written by Chief Justice Ron George.

There's also some sort of South American tree frog that can pull this off also but I wouldn't want to be one.

Homophobes will work diligently to prevent further expansion of what they perceive as the "gay perversion" of society.

Very dissapointing decision to me. People can blast me all they want and that will not change my opinion. Gay Marraiges are imo wrong in the eyes God. I choose to go on Gods word before and above a court ruling. I know that we have to accept a supreme court ruling as a society and citizens but we do not have to where it realy matters, in our hearts.

Wrong is Wrong and that is all that there is to it.

Are the overwehlming majority of Americans who happen to support bans on gay marriage homophobes, in your opinion?

Amends the California Constitution to provide that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California. Summary of estimate by Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local government: The measure would have no fiscal effect on state or local governments. This is because there would be no change to the manner in which marriages are currently recognized by the state. (Initiative 07-0068.)

Arnold has already promised that he will not support any such amendment.
