Public schools to refrain from playing private schools

Featured Replies

Just wondering, but what rules has a school like CovCath broken, or NCC or a St. Henry? Yes LCA and LexCath broke rules, but so did plenty of public schools, and I don't hear anyone saying all the public schools are cheaters, because some public schools cheat.

Seems the freedom of parents to choose what school their children attend in this great country of ours, isn't so free anymore, at least not in Kentucky, unless of course you attend the schools that others say you have to attend.

Is it still okay if I practice my freedom of religion and not follow yours, or should I practice the religion that you want me to practice too?

Preach on brother!!! I want to say I agree with you 100% I agree with you so much so that I think you have made the case for the public schools. You can go to any school you want to, as a result, public schools may choose to play you or not play you because of that decision.

No one ever looks at the other side of the coin, nope we call them "cowards", because they won't play with us anymore, play football, play basketball, play all sports, within your own private relm and be happy, and we will just play in our diverse world.

Until one or two schools dominate that system and again the hue and cry will be heard about how unfair the stsyem is, how unlevel the playing field is etc.

Yes, there used to be a state at large champion that squared off against the Jefferson County champs but the public schools complained about that one too because it guaranteed a Louisville school would be in the finals.

This is the same old, tired issue and that issue is the large public schools in KY severely underachieve in football for many reasons. Therefore, in typical government (schools in this case) fashion, the schools are doing whatever they can to get rid of the competition they can't beat.

Guru,

You know I think that people are stupid mostly when it comes to this. Back then it used to put a jefferson Co. school in automatically but right now as it stands they are putting in 2 every 3 out of 4 years. Just doesn't make any sense if you ask me. I would much rather be considered the at large state champ and get a chance to play Trinity for the outright state championship than go and watch 2 Louisville schools play every year unless of course I lived in Louisville and then the lader would be fine.

What if they did this in every class? If needed of course? I just do not understand the whole thing really it is never going to be even unless we take the whole population Louisville and even it out across the state. maybe if every city in the state had the exact same population then maybe it would be even but it will never happen.

Did I miss another report with more detailed information? According to the article linked KASS represents 174 schools but no where did it say 174 supers signed anything. The article even states the super of the biggest district in the state is not going to honor the reduction.

Why all the cloak and dagger garbage? I think supers should each put his/her stance in writing and then publish the list of where everyone stands.

Obviously Jefferson County's super didn't sign it. Who did sign it?

Just to be clear...

What does "encouraged" mean? What incentives are there if the "schedule reduction plan" is adopted? What disincentives are there if the plan is ignored?

From a FINANCIAL standpoint, who stands to gain/lose? Big private schools? Small private schools? Big public schools? Small public schools? Open-enrollment schools? Urban schools?

Although the phrase "all sports" is mentioned, is this pretty much a football issue, or is that an oversimplification?

Ok I'm back Alltell...now now. You saw Coach Redman pour it on teams, my kid played for the man I've seen things that you have no clue about.

I can't speak for Ohio/Indiana...I only researched those football states that have lot of kids playing football,

Its a matter of time before Jefferson County follows the rest of the "Cowards" your word not mine.

I had a son go through the traditional program and talk to parents every week trying to get a child into it, as of right now I don't have a cow in the fight but do have a son who entering this fall. Not every kid gets in is my point.

Male lost to Manual last year and the last three years won two out of three on last play field goals. They have lost to several out of the county schools the last 4 out 5 years, have not won state that someone made a reference to since 2000, reference 18 or something like that. I'm more proud of my softball championships than yelling out about something I just watched.

There is more to life than winning State, yes everybody wants to win, but when you work hard and play hard and do win, why do we must yell it out when debating...we are not surprised that you have 18 rings and my brother thats the whole point of this situation, level...equal for everyone.

Ohio and Indiana both have schools that hold the same number of boys as the largest private schools in the state. This does not happen in Kentucky. There are many more private high schools in each major city located in these states. For instance, Cincinatti has nine catholic schools playing football in the same population area that Louisville has two. Also, their Dioces(sp) do not allow students to attend from across the river. Therefore, this is a very poor comparison.

Actually we have 4 in Louisville.

Actually we have 4 in Louisville.

Who are the other two Catholic schools?

All Tell in football it pretty much has been a 2 or 3 team breakaway for a long time and that is due to the numbers they have to choose from. I am sure in the past they have bent the rules to get a kid they wanted to play. There is also a rule in the public school system that I do not like and that one is if I don't like the coach and I like the other one across town all I have to do is move and be in that district and I can play at that school. I know why the rule is there but that rule has been bent broken so bad as well so a kid can be eligible instantly it is sick. Sorry about the private school bashing earlier because this is the public rule that they use to get what they want.

I guess we all must face it rules are made to be broken or changed and I do not have a problem playing T or X on our schedule every year if it will help my son be looked at by say Florida or LSU as opposed to Eastern KY or Georgetown College, and I am not knocking those schools they are great schools but in football neither of them are Florida or LSU.

Obviously Jefferson County's super didn't sign it. Who did sign it?

This is standard operating procedure anytime public school folks attempt to stick it to private schools. In other words, the details are always secret so no one knows where anyone stands.

Now that is what I call leadership!

Who are the other two Catholic schools?

Holy Cross & DeSales

You and I are on the same side of this issue, but I don't agree with that premise. The playoff format was changed because the Louisville representative in the 4A finals never had to leave town in the postseason while the state teams were sometimes traveling all over the place.

The move had more to do with travel than anything else.

Ohio doesn't have a lot of kids playing football? Maybe, just maybe the data there doesn't agree with your hypothesis?

In your world Iroquois and Atherton are on a "level playing field" with Male?

I will admit that recently Redman hasn't gone out of his way to blast weaker teams but I have been on sidelines opposite him where he had no problem leaving his starters in (particularly when Chris was chasing records) until the end of games while up by a large margin. Anyone who has been following high school football in Jefferson County for any time at all will concur.

I'm tired of hearing coaches do this type of thing and claim "it's for the kids". What about the "kids" from smaller schools who won't have full schedules now?

My compliments and thanks to JCPS for not participating.

The Lexington schools don't have the courage to schedule Louisville schools now, public or private.

Until one or two schools dominate that system and again the hue and cry will be heard about how unfair the stsyem is, how unlevel the playing field is etc.

That is an interesting theory... however that is what it is a theory.

I have another point to make but I will make it later. Good day to all!
