If you can't beat em, run away scared.

I think this is a slippery slope. If it is private schools first what is next? Independent schools? Open enrollment schools?

I will say this much, if this boycott really takes hold the balance of power could be worse. Schools like Beechwood and Highlands really stand to benefit from private schools going down the tubes and if those two schools get much better the teams in their classes will never be able to beat them.

Cowards? How many times has X/Rocks played in the finals in football the

last 30 years? Maybe they want to see a change like other states. Tennessee/Louisiana/Alabama, these are the ones I know about which changed.

Cowards?

Cowards.

BTW Jefferson County isn't participating:

Jefferson County Public Schools superintendent Sheldon Berman said that the concerns are "viable and serious" but he said Louisville public schools aren't participating.

“At this point we’re not specifically going to do anything other than what we’re doing,” he said.

That is your opinion that is not shared by many in this state.

If you want to get into a name calling contest, you could call the private school administrators cowards by not adhering to the basic setups that public schools adhere to.

I don't think either serves any purpose to moving this argument down the road to a solution.

But I do applaud the courage of the superintendents to try and do something about it despite knowing that a name calling contest was exactly what was going to happen to them.

I though everyone had the same rules? The bolded statement implies the extra restrictions the publics have put on themselves are correct. Have you ever considered that maybe, just maybe, what the catholic schools are doing is better for the kids? It is about the kids, isn't it? Or is it just about tax bases and other nonsense?

I guess this ends all my hope of public schools creating more opportunities for girls, instead of only focusing on boys sports. Now they definately won't have any field hockey or lacrosse teams, cause there will be no one to play. The public system truly is a "good ole boy" network for sure now. It's downright shamefull what public schools do for the girls, or don't do I should say.

Just wondering, but what rules has a school like CovCath broken, or NCC or a St. Henry? Yes LCA and LexCath broke rules, but so did plenty of public schools, and I don't hear anyone saying all the public schools are cheaters, because some public schools cheat.

Seems the freedom of parents to choose what school their children attend in this great country of ours, isn't so free anymore, at least not in Kentucky, unless of course you attend the schools that others say you have to attend.

Is it still okay if I practice my freedom of religion and not follow yours, or should I practice the religion that you want me to practice too?

I've said it before (many times), and I will say it again. A split is not the answer, a swift and stern punishment for violation is.

I would love to see schools who violate the rules, banned from post season play for five years, fined $50K, and the players involved banned from KHSAA sports for life.

This may sound harse, and it is, but you will only see one violation, and that will be the end of it. Right now, schools know that they may get away with violation with just a slap on the wrist, but if they know ahead of time that the above punishment is going to be levied, and the players know that the above punishment will be levied, you will not see violations.

I will say one thing, I hear a lot more "rumors" of public school improprieties than private schools as far as athletics goes. I'm a product of a public high school and will probably end up sending my kids to a public school, but this whole thing is just stupid. It's jealousy, cowardice, and a whole slew of other things that have nothing to do with the rules the privates supposedly are breaking. How's that?

I have to agree with that. I hear more about public schools "stretching the rules" a lot more than I do private schools. And lets be honest here, this is high school sports. If there was as much thought put into the states educational system as there was into the athletics then Kentucky wouldn't be as far behind as it is.

Ram, you hit the nail on the head. Both public and private schools have been let off the hook too easy. From what I'm told you will see stronger punishments in the future including banning offending coaches from coaching in Ky for whole seasons and in certain cases, for lifetime.

The KHSAA has always hoped that the principals and supers would police their own coaches and where appropriate not allow offending coaches to continue to coach. For various reasons, they have not been willing to do so. To the contrary, you have seen offending coaches get fired at one school ( a good thing) just to get a job at another high school that had knowledge of the offending coach's conduct (by the way, it was a public school that hired the offending coach after he had been fired). As a result you are going to see much more aggressive action by the KHSAA against coaches. You are going to see banishments from post season play for schools.

I disagree with this whole "endorsement" thing because it unfairly targets privates that don't cheat and doesn't target the publics that do. In my mind it just shows how biased the KASS has become on this issue.

I normally respect most of both of yours' (stretch there), but this the above is downright wrong. Has some private schools cheated? Sure, so have numerous publics, more actually. The next thing down the pipe will be people like you that will get mad because a county like ours (Jefferson), who has growth and progression on their mind, with open enrollment, will be far superior to rural publics. The KHSAA is a joke, the public superintendents are a bigger joke. They really believe that they are entitled to something, wait until these kids get into the real world. I wish we were no longer a member of the KHSAA.

I purposely never mentioned cheating because I don't think cheating is the issue. It is the nature of the two schools and how athletically one school is going to have advantages that the other school cannot match up with.

As far as the real world, I have made posts of 15-20 things that are similar in nature. So, this is real life.

I don't disagree with what you have said about girls' sports.

I would think that this might INCREASE public school participation in girl's sports because they can compete in them now.

I read a quote in the Lex Herald this morning discussing the publics longstanding boycott of LC and LCA. Sayre was mentioned and noted that they were "exempted" due to their "good relationship" with the publics. I would bet the farm if Sayre suddenly started beating the publics, that "relationship" would suddenly turn south. The quality of the "relationship" is directly proportional to the publics ability to crush the private schools in athletic competition. This is about winning and losing, and if the publics can't win, they simply choose to take their marbles and go home.

Also, the thought of a Scott Co boycotting some small parochial school is preposterous. The differential in resources in this case is unbelievable, yet I hear no complaints from the publics as they destroy the weaker team. Of note, I also hear no complaints from the small parochial school who is the victim of the massacre. Is there a lesson here???????

Finally, why don't the large public schools boycott small public schools since that playing field is so unlevel?? This is all about adults winning, pure and simple. Student-athletes appear no where in this equation.

Everybody cheats in some way, its human nature.

How many times has X/Rocks either team has played in the finals the last 35 years?

Interesting, no one has replied about the three other states that I mentioned.

Alltell you can call us Cowards all you want, I call it level playing field for everyone. Publics and privates. How many times in the past 35 years I've seen Iroquois and Atherton play the private schools? Comment

How comprable are those other states to KY in terms of population, school size, consolidation, geography, socioeconomic factors, Urban/rural areas, ect.?
