Public schools to refrain from playing private schools

Featured Replies

Didn't Bob Schneider from Newport Central Catholic predict this when complaining to the Lexington Christian group (who still do not think they did nothing wrong)?

Many of you hate to hear this but guess who runs education in this state in terms of operation and policy? Its not the Dept. of Ed, school boards or the KHSAA. It is the superintendents.

I predict as this plays out you will find a move to totally revamp and overtake the KHSAA and it will become an entity controlled by the superintendent's association, not athletic directors.

The end result will be resolved issues with much harder sanctions for those who violate the rules.

I disagree. The super's powers began to decline with KERA, particularly enactments this decade. They've been fighting the changes like crazy in recent years, but the folks who hold the power are the individual school Principals.

If the supers aren't real careful, the General Assembly will take over the KHSAA and remove all school personnel from the Board of Control and replace them with lay people. And you'd be surprised how much input the supers already have with the KHSAA; more than the AD's by a long shot.

This just voices an extension of the "unwritten" boycott that has been enforced in Fayette County for years. The public systems are just hurting themselves. The private school programs will do just fine while the publics will have to find some other group to blame as their athletic programs, especially football, fall farther behind.

If you don't want to address the real issues needing to be resolved to make your programs competitive, just dodge the competition.

Not with a Democrat as gov.

You're happy that public school superintendents are cowards?

I will put the ones up in NorKY against just about anyone.

You're happy that public school superintendents are cowards?

That is your opinion that is not shared by many in this state.

If you want to get into a name calling contest, you could call the private school administrators cowards by not adhering to the basic setups that public schools adhere to.

I don't think either serves any purpose to moving this argument down the road to a solution.

But I do applaud the courage of the superintendents to try and do something about it despite knowing that a name calling contest was exactly what was going to happen to them.

Great move, now maybe the privates will play by the rules.

And what rules are those pray tell?

If you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen.

Oh wait that's exactly what they are doing.

Cowards.

Civility, please.

Cowards? How many times has X/Rocks played in the finals in football the

last 30 years? Maybe they want to see a change like other states. Tennessee/Louisiana/Alabama, these are the ones I know about which changed.

Cowards?

A word to all elected school board members. The superintendents work for you. If anyone comes after our kids, we are taxpayers and we vote.

I just wonder, how do the AD's and Coaches of some of the Public Schools who played for, or went to Private Schools feel about these new guidelines? Seems if I were a former student from one of these schools, I wouldn't be feeling very secure about my job right about now! Come to think of it, if I were a public school teacher who went to a private school, I think I would be looking over my shoulder to see if my job is safe. Seems to me if you want the Privates out, they just might want those who went to Privates Schools out also.... I just wonder how many public school teachers went to Private Schools...... something to ponder....

I normally respect most of both of yours' (stretch there), but this the above is downright wrong. Has some private schools cheated? Sure, so have numerous publics, more actually. The next thing down the pipe will be people like you that will get mad because a county like ours (Jefferson), who has growth and progression on their mind, with open enrollment, will be far superior to rural publics. The KHSAA is a joke, the public superintendents are a bigger joke. They really believe that they are entitled to something, wait until these kids get into the real world. I wish we were no longer a member of the KHSAA.

You of all people, and the school with which you hold #1 to your heart, can SAY nothing in regards to FAIRNESS and an even playing field. I have case, after case of things that could be called suspect. All we do is attract some of the best from around here, and EVERYONE has to pay. Not your school.
