April 18, 200818 yr Do you really believe that this will in any way shape or form do anything to increase competetiveness? How? On here time and time again, people assume it is about championships. If there is a split and you assume it is about championships, than the publics would think that they could now compete for championships and start teams. I am a glass half full type of guy.
April 18, 200818 yr Everybody cheats in some way, its human nature. How many times has X/Rocks either team has played in the finals the last 35 years? Interesting, no one has replied about the three other states that I mentioned. Alltell you can call us Cowards all you want, I call it level playing field for everyone. Publics and privates. How many times in the past 35 years I've seen Iroquois and Atherton play the private schools? Comment Do you really believe that if the publics and privates split that schools like Atherton and Iroquois would suddenly become competitive? I've seen Redmon run the score up on both of those teams on more then one occasion. Do you really want to play the "level playing field" card considering how much the field tilts in Male's favor over the other public schools in Jefferson County? Do you really believe that there is a "level playing field" between just the public schools in Jefferson County? Or maybe since that "tilt" is in your favor that's not a problem. Maybe, just maybe you're so strongly in favor of this because like me you figure that if the public and privates are ever separated they may as well paint the 6A trophy purple and gold because Male will run roughshod over the rest of the state's public schools. Check out the KHSAA records. Male has been in the championship game many more times then any other public school. How is that fair? How can the playing field be level? Maybe Male needs to watch their backs because if the public/private separation ever does occur they're next. Did you notice that Male and Trinity have met in the finals 3 times, only one less then the X/T match-up that you have such a problem with? You want comments about the states you mentioned how about commenting on state like Ohio and Indiana where there is no separation but the public schools still seem to do OK. I'll retract the coward reference. Hypocrites LINK TO KHSAA PAST FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS PAGE

If it's not about championships then what's it about? If you are so sure that you would be more competative without private schools and championships aren't importent then why not withdraw from district and regional competition, set up your own schedule and then at the end of your season have a banquet and celebrate how competetive you were.
April 18, 200818 yr Another thought on the issues in Jefferson County. Maybe the reason that Sheldon Bermon says JCPS Schools won't participate in this is because he and others in Jefferson County don't want any attention drawn to how uneven the playing field is within their own school system.

Remember my view is the split should be about open and closed enrollment. You could very easily have and probably would have private schools in a closed enrollment division. I think this move keeps the debate alive and hopefully, moving towards a solution instead of just sweeping it under the rug. I think a private/public split DOES NOT address the problem that is out there but rather diverts the attention to the real problem.

I think this is an excellent point. The private/public attention is just diverting focus on where the real unevenities (Is that even a word?) really lie.
April 18, 200818 yr We expanded the class system so more teams could "feel good". I guess that wasn't enough. All the kids need to win and have trophys no matter how hard they want to work... so they don't have their feelings hurt. What a perfect way to prepare for the real world. Let's apply this in another area... if we eliminate the really smart, talented medical students out there, so we don't have to compete with them in med school, we can all be brain surgeons! Cool, I want a drill!!!

Honestly, I could give a rat's hindquarters about 6A football and what goes on there. Same thing for 1A, 2A, 5A. And either 3A or 4A, not really sure what A we are in. I say that not to be rude but to emphatically point out to you that despite what the T and X fans believe, it is NOT ALL ABOUT THEM. You are just one straw on the camel's back. Sorry to point this out, but to many of the schools in the state, you just aren't that important.

That they can be of a less qualified candidate and still get the job because of their skin color or gender. That is real life.

I'll retract the coward reference. Hypocrites LINK TO KHSAA PAST FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS PAGE Ohio and Indiana both have schools that hold the same number of boys as the largest private schools in the state. This does not happen in Kentucky. There are many more private high schools in each major city located in these states. For instance, Cincinatti has nine catholic schools playing football in the same population area that Louisville has two. Also, their Dioces(sp) do not allow students to attend from across the river. Therefore, this is a very poor comparison.

April 18, 200818 yr If the public superintendents are genuinly interested in a symbolic move to support their position, they need to have and display the intestinal fortitude to act: they need to withhold their dues from the KHSAA and not participate in any athletic functions of that organization. After all, the KHSAA is the entity which refused their desire to split the playoffs, and the state legislature is the entity which denied their desire to determine "feeder systems" and thus student enrollment/athletic participation. I would think this might be a much worthier example to teach the school children subject to their authority. And, who knows, some superintendents might adopt this approach (as opposed to a "boycott" ((of schools that we can't beat)) ), as soon as they recover from their testicular implant surgery.

April 18, 200818 yr If a large majority of the coaches in those other sports pushed for classification, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened. I don't see it ever happening in basketball. Sweet 16 is the biggest money cow in KHSAA sports. And those in power in this state like the tradition. They try and I would not be surprised to see the state legislature get involved and keep it as is. The other sports, I could see a possibility in some. Others I don't think classification is a realistically possiblity because of the number of teams.
April 18, 200818 yr Somebody please enlighten me as to what this IS all about. ... and I am comforted on being reminded that the doctor I see, the person that fixes my car brakes or the elevator I ride on... may not be the best qualified person. :scared:
