April 29, 200818 yr Bingo. You hit the nail on the head. From what I was told, the genesis of the KASS action was 1. the desire to go after schools that cheated and go after the adults at those schools that cheated; and 2. their disappointment with what they thought was to light of treatment towards Lex Cath and LCA. That part I have zero problem with. But what really disappointed me in the press release that the KASS sent out was that it didn't say the supers should not boycott the non public schools that aren't cheating and it didn't say that the supers should boycott the public schools that are cheating. Not all non public schools cheat and not all public schools are saints. Let's go after the schools and adults that cheat and leave the rest alone. Very well said

And once they have been punished, how long do you continue to "go after" them despite reforms at the school?
April 29, 200818 yr I have to agree with that. I hear more about public schools "stretching the rules" a lot more than I do private schools. And lets be honest here, this is high school sports. If there was as much thought put into the states educational system as there was into the athletics then Kentucky wouldn't be as far behind as it is. Amen to that....I went to public school and I have done OK, but my kids go to Private/Catholic and I am glad they do. It is all about what you put into and I think the focus in Privates is on excellence in the classroom and on the playing field. Just my humble opinion.
April 30, 200818 yr Chip, glad they doing well at the private school. I'm also very proud. 1) Atherton...Art degree 2) Atherton...degrees in History/Cinema Art Southern Illinois University 3) Male...Campbellsville freshman 3.8 4) 5th grader public Ele. all Os maybe its their Dad.
May 2, 200818 yr AllTell, my son graduated in 2000, and the Rocks also beat them in the district tourneys too, on Ballard I can't remember. I just know the kids knew if they wanted to advance they had to beat them. Smack, my son played soccer and football was the spirit of the thread. but soccer is also played by all schools and I was defending Atherton, and its hard with football. But you know its time to move on for me, and I'm getting ready for my 10 year old's soccer tournament this weekend. Cool, I actually follow Atherton since my stepdaughter went there, and live a few houses from campus. I hope they do well since they are a neighbor. Good luck with soccer, and for me it's lacrosse right now and field hockey very soon.
May 2, 200818 yr And once they have been punished, how long do you continue to "go after" them despite reforms at the school? Depends probably on if there is actual reform? Some schools that had earlier trouble have lost key people who were instrumental in trying to "reform", and now appear to be doing the "same old things" including going against the very philosophical principles they were trying to reform. So the "going after" continues.
May 2, 200818 yr Smack...I understand big time. Being born and raised in a football state and having four boys who love soccer, well once you have an interest in a child playing....you change quickly. Good luck in the future. I have already seen too many soccer games and we are trying to talk our 11 year old in Fall Football. Momma says..."quit feeding him extra food". He doesn't have a "soccer body" so I think you will see him in a few years. But if he wants to play in the orchestra, thats OK too. I just can't yell as much.
May 2, 200818 yr The differential in resources in this case is unbelievable, yet I hear no complaints from the publics as they destroy the weaker team. Of note, I also hear no complaints from the small parochial school who is the victim of the massacre. Is there a lesson here??????? Finally, why don't the large public schools boycott small public schools since that playing field is so unlevel?? This is all about adults winning, pure and simple. Student-athletes appear no where in this equation. As the product of a parochial school that was (and still is) massacred by most large public schools, I have to say the above is well stated. I think public schools are just as guilty as privates when it comes to recruiting.

May 3, 200818 yr Smack...I understand big time. She is a phenomenal athlete, at one tme HS were looking at her for her volleyball skills in 5th grade. But sh hasn't grown since, and she was only 75 lbs starting high school. She's up to 90 now (end of freshman year) but still led her HS field hockey team in scoring, assist, was captain etc. But she has to grow, cause I see the other kids shooting past her, and she doesn't have the strength she needs to compete. We are seriously waiting on a growt spurt that I afraid will never happen. And we don't have an orchestra.
May 4, 200818 yr Smack, how tall are your wife's male relatives? My 2nd son is 6'2". His Mom's side are all tall. My side are muchkins. One day he is the same height as me 5' 10" and the next morning he grew 3 inches. He was overnite, so it will happen for her. He was 15 when this took place. I measure our 11 year old once a week. His Mom's side are shorter than my first wife's folks...see above, but we are hoping for at least 5' 10".
May 4, 200818 yr I was only married a few weeks, so I only met the folks. Seriously, it's a long story. And a longer divorce. ANyway, her mom is barely 100, and I'm short, so I guestimate she'll max at 5'3". It's the strength she needs for her sports. She needs LBS!!!! We better not stray too much moreon this post, or this thread will get locked down. :sssh:
May 9, 200818 yr I think the privates should boycott the publics. Why not? There are plenty of privates to play each other from within and outside the state. Do this for a few years and the publics may start crying for the privates gate $$$$. Are state championships really worth it? Come on, we're only talking football..
