Public schools to refrain from playing private schools

Featured Replies

Pep. I'll share with you but why the smack?

Again, I'll write it again...Male didn't WANT to move and they made an offer to up grade the Durrett campus, no school in the system has been asked to move from its location except Male. Boy...I hope this time it registers.

And it case you missed it. Male has more acerage than X/Rocks and most other schools in Jefferson County. I'm sure if the Rocks had the land they would update their stadium for other sports.

Somebody save me!

Back to the topic. I don't want to see another word about T,X, and Male in the context its being discussed.

I read on another thread a post about how this is already negatively affecting the public schools outside of Jefferson County. St. X is hosting a track meet the week before the Regional meet (which is being held at St. X) in order to allow all the teams to preview the track and get familiar with it prior to the events. One team in the region, who is located outside of Jefferson County has been told by their Super, who informed their AD to inform their coaches that they were not going to be competing against any private schools. Apparently this coach was not consulted about his thoughts on a potential boycott and is against it. As a result, his kids are not going to get to go to the meet the week before regions to get familiar with the track, which will only put them at a disadvantage.

This is just a singular example of how kids are going to be hurt by this, and egos aside, high school sports should be about the kids. The sad thing is that this thing hasn't even taken full effect yet. This will do nothing but retard KY athletics.

It's pretty tough to participate in a track meet of any quality if you're searching for one that has NO private schools participating.

And to forego a chance to get acclimated to the regional site is pretty shortsighted.

I think Jeff. Co Ad's are getting mixed messages from the new administration. On one hand they have been told not to schedule games vs private schools, then Dr. Berman doesnt vote for the new proposal. Unlike the former Jeff. Co Superintendant Daschner, Dr. Berman is a big supporter of athletics and sees the value that athletics has on education. Maybe he see's the Public vs. Private debate differently. I know he wants as much participation in athletics as possible. He is pushing for the Louisville middle schools to start soccer, baseball, and football (flag I believe) next year.

. Also, their Dioces(sp) do not allow students to attend from across the river.

Out of state students are allowed. I am pretty sure that to compete in sports that the "Moeller Rule" still is applied by the OHSAA.

I think the institution of middle school programs will go a long long way to improving the level of competition across the board in Jefferson County.

Now that's a progressive thinker. What some really don't get is that our (privates) boys and girls have been playing organized sports for years by the time they get to high school. It is much less of a percentage in the public sector.

I don't think that's true. School sports, perhaps, but not "organized" sports.

I've heard that participating in at least one school sport is mandatory/policy at some (relatively small) private schools; hence the numbers in sports such as cross-country. Is this correct, or is my information bad?

How many times has X/Rocks either team has played in the finals the last 35 years?

Interesting, no one has replied about the three other states that I mentioned.

Alltell you can call us Cowards all you want, I call it level playing field for everyone. Publics and privates. How many times in the past 35 years I've seen Iroquois and Atherton play the private schools? Comment

My step daughter attended Atherton. All I know is there were several armed policemen at her graduation ceremonies. Is that normal?

Atherton used to be strong in sports, but they are misguided these days. They have no turnout for their games, but pack the house to protest a few years ago when Atherton proposed wearing a uniform in school. I was there. It was laughable, hearing them claim it violated their rights, and I'm talking about the parents. Then they send these kids out into the workforce (where they have a uniform usually) and leave us to deal with em. Sad.

My point is this. Atherton doesn't focus on, nor do they care about sports like other schools. So they aren't ever going to win, no matter how many teams you pull out of the pot. Bad example.

Please tell me you don't honestly believe no public school has ever used (or is currently using) the fictional address trick? If that is the case, I believe there is some prime FL swampland you may be interested in purchasing.

I used it myself actually. My ex and I went to court over this Public vs Private issue. She even ran to Indiana to bolster her case, thinking I would back down. To compromise temporarily during litigation, I agreed to put my daughter in public schools in Jeff County, even though she live in Jeffsonville Indiana officially. We used my address in KY for official records. Thankfully she wasn't old enough for sports at the time, or........ :fight: Anyway, after two years, I won the right to put her in private schools, and she now lives with me. Oddly enough, my ex now also has her other kids from a new marriage in Private schools. Hmmmm.

Read all of my other posts before you reply to one. I said not every private school is like this but the ones that are have given all the privates a bad rep. I did not say anything about tax money either.

I know it is from all the catholic churches and whoever else contributes to the school. Isn't that how colleges work as well except the state colleges that get state funding?

The big difference between high school and college is crossing that magic barrier line known as "18". Up to that point, the parents are legally responsible for the youth, and decisions regarding what they feel is "best" for him/her and future. After "18" (college or whatever), the youth may assume the responsibility of those decisions.

Even state funded public universities receive athletic funding, from state to state, in a variety of ways. UK's athletics survive on the back of the Blue/White fund, not the legislature.

Smack, "bad example" I don't think so... I had two sons go to Atherton and one played soccer for four years and they were very good, but lost to the Rocks every time they played and the games were close, but still lost...try again.

Atherton's soccer team has also lost every time they have played Ballard since 2000 (that's as far back as the KHSAA scoreboards go). Do you hold the same sense of righteous indignation over Atherton's ineptness against the Bruins?
