  1. My final prediction: Lex Catholic 42 - Belfry 28...and that's a "close" game..see you in Bowling Green
  2. Is there any way to find out each game's attendance? I'm guessing J Moore is counting them by hand...I haven't seen a number on A game yet..
  3. I don't think anyone doesn't recognize that this is the title game for Class 3A..from that point on, the overwhelming opinion is that Belfry is going to do what they usually do-run over their opponent until there's nothing left to run over..perhaps..but in this game, particularly the championship games, both teams get to play, and they will both play both sides of the ball..on paper, its sounds insurmountable to deal with Belfry's running game..maybe as insurmountable as dealing with Catholic's spread offense, and the speed and ability of its' skill position players..I think this game just might come down to the skill, ability and endurance of the defensive units...Belfry has a well known and recognized head coach who has earned his records over many years with a style of play that suits his resources..Catholic has a head coach who, by comparison, is in the early stages of his career, but, who also is gaining a firm grasp on what the game is all about, and is taking full advantage of all the assets available to him...you know, this could just be one of the classic high school football games in Kentucky's history..wouldn't that be an incredible page in their memory banks twenty years from now..just saying...
  4. He runs very well, deceptively so for a guy with his heighth...he's got quick feet and good vision for where he's going.
  5. LC played a pretty solid game on both sides of the ball..third quarter got a little ragged, but overall, I think Catholic put a pretty decent game together..Coach Perry is a solid leader and is beginning to put his "brand" on the program..takes a while, but the kids love him, the asst coaches are all on board, and he is becoming an integral part of the program on Clays Mill...nice game Knights..
  6. Highlands is still one of the finest high school football teams/programs in this part of the country...that's a fact that hasn't changed for many years and may be the standard for one more year. But one of the real "beauties" of high school athletics consistently remains that you don't have to be the best team in the state...you just have to be the best team on this field on this night. With that equation, nearly every team has a shot on a given night....programs like Highlands, Trinity, St X, Mayfield, and so on, and so on make that a very difficult premise to work with, but the magic of a bunch of 15, 16, 17, 18 year olds can occasionally defy the "traditional odds" and provide an outcome that wasn't forseen...Highlands will likely be a prohibitive favorite to not only deal the Knights a rough night but also whoever comes after that...I will be the "traditional optimist" and anticipate (and pray for) something to happen in that game that alters the outcome...I'm picking my boys by 7 in a close, but monumental, upset of the Birds, and give the Ft Thomas community something to talk about for years to come (the 17-0 game in 2007 continues to be a thorn in someone's side up there)..c u Friday...
  7. LC 34 - MC 14 By this time in the season/playoffs, if you're still playing you've got some talent and smart coaching..Catholic's fortunate to have both..many of these games from here on out cook down to one overriding principle: on each and every game night, you don't have to be the best team in the class, just the best team on this field this night...should be quite a night...the winner's prize: Highlands or Cov Cath, and then beyond...that's why the title means so much...
  8. LC has put an impressive team out on the field this year. The BG game was overmatched badly, but BG's gonna see a lot of that this year. They are good. We've got a decent to good running game and some pretty exciting receivers and a quarterback who is rapidly learning, game by game, how to use both. Defense is a work in progress, but there are some solid assets in there. This game tonight will be a good measuring of where they are. I see Catholic by two or more scores.
  9. Ensworth is a private high school which serves primarily the entertainment industry in the central part of Tenn...every member of the football team is on full athletic scholarship...the tuition is very high, but no challenge to the families that go there...when they played us (LC) in Lexington, I learned that one of the cheerleaders is Faith Hill's daughter (she was very good)kudos to Trinity for keeping it that close..
  10. BG recovers fumble, can run out clock, wet, wet wet game
  11. LC starts another year with a stable of athletes. Bell Co will be a good early test of where we are, and we'll get a bigger one next week. Catholic's resources look very good-QB is solid and experienced, the running backs are fast and capable, a good bunch of receivers and an ever-improving line...the defense can be scored on but they will get better as the season progresses..good man (Letton) at the helm. I see LC taking this first game and am looking forward to a great season..(I know, be careful what you wish for-I would love to have a rematch for the region against Highlands, but that's a long way off..got to play them one at a time)
  12. I heard a rumor that Alexander was coming back and will suit up incognito and will come in on the final play of the game-the outcome will be settled on that play...Lafayette, you better not let the game be close then...Even though he is many years down the road, he is still better than any running back Bill Curry has ever seen..
  13. LC 31 - BC 24...it will be a close game throughout but Catholic has a much better air game and that will prove to be the difference..Boyle is good and will not go down easily..what makes this a great game is that history has shown that neither of these teams will quit, go down easily, or put simply, lose..You have to beat them..these are the kind of teams (especially at this time of year) that make high school football in Kentucky great...see you on the field..
  14. Games like this (and there were many) are unavoidable as long as KHSAA insists on beginning the playoffs at the bottem of many four team districts. The competitive thing to do would be a playoff system consisting of the top two finishers in each district. Many of the 2-8, 1-9, and 0-10 teams are not looking forward to tangling with ultimate district/region champions...it does, however, give many programs to extend the season one to two games (although I question the value of a team getting beaten that badly) but that's why their title is "Commish" and mine is "Mr"..
  15. Everything points to BG pulling out a narrow win...I think even BG thinks that..that could be their undoing. Catholic's playing good right now (and this is a good point in the season to be playing good)..I think Catholic will pull it out 24-21..it will be one of the best games in town this season..dress warm and come on over..DA said it was ok..
  16. District game..gotta play it..running clock in second half..freshman will get lots of playing time..LC 56 Taylor Co 12
  17. Catholic 31 Boyle Co 24...a great way to spend a Friday night..
  18. This one is a mismatch..Catholic should do this by 4 to 6 scores..Sounds like it will be a wet one which won't hold the game up at LC, but it can make performance on both teams interesting. Letton's got the team in a good frame of mind with some pretty stiff challenges ahead..LC takes this one 52-18..being 5-1 with the pre-district season they've played is pretty impressive..time to get down to work..Go Big Blue!!
  19. LC takes this one big...hope a gentle breeze goes off the field toward the STC..Central has had good teams in the past, but they simply haven't had the players in recent years..Catholic by four scores or more..
  20. This should be a great football game to watch..Catholic still has speed to burn and it should come out ... good coaches matchup..LC by 4
