Has anyone had the opportunity to see the Pirates any over the past few days? Should be an interesting year in Death Valley.

I have... still very early, but the team has potential this year to be pretty good. Lots of questions left to be answered. Willing to bet no other team in the state has as much talent at the FB position. Morale seems to be high.

Also, remember these names because whether it be this year or next year, these kids will be good ball players

 

DL Randy Webb- Remember Phillip Varney off one of the state championship teams? This is kid may be even tougher.

 

HB/DB/QB Thomas Varney- I don't know how much playing time this youngster will get this season, but he has got to be on the field as much as possible. Naturally athletic and good speed.

 

TE/DL Corey Coleman- Big, strong, and hits like a freight train.

 

So far these kids have surprised me the most.

I thought Webb looked good the couple times I saw him play last season. Seems like a natural NG.

 

Has Coleman put on a lot of size. I kinda thought we was a DB body (although stocky)

Coleman's a big ole boy now, it surprised me when I saw how big he was.

 

I don't remember Varney's exact number last year, but in practice he wears #9.

I honestly don't know,,,, he could be an incoming freshman for all I know. He has been taking a few snaps at QB, obviously to add depth, but I don't know.

Belfry updates? Didn't you hear? They dropped football in favor of consentrating on basketball! LOL J/K I would say the Pirates will be right in the thick of it come Thanksgiving time. Basically, same story different year.

Just saw the little picture of Belfry's "Media Day" in the Appalachian News Express.

 

Charlie Dotson (#28) looks like he has put on a nice bit of muscle! Thats what I like to see! :thumb:

Yes, Varney was the QB for the freshman team last year.
