I know via a nephew that if you attend Ignite and want to play sports you have no choice but to compete for what would be your home high school based on your address.  No open options.

So after seeing the post game pics and reading the comments in articles, I get the feeling the coaches and players don’t think the principal is backing down. Anyone else get that impression or am I reading too much into normal season ending emotions?

I did listen to Coach Sullivan's postgame comments and he said he didn't want it to end but I don't see anything that indicates Coach Sullivan will coach the Jags next season.

Even if he can stay, would not be all bad if he moves on. I have hung in there w/ Bosses that hated my guts. Never fired. We still had success.   BUT, it takes a toll. 
 

The positive… when you have good Bosses… you realize it and you are very thankful/appreciative.

I could be wrong but I believe the school and school district have pretty much held the “we can’t comment on personnel” line and nothing has been officially stated.

I am not district personnel or anything like that, but I know he was told in the January meeting he could resign or not be retained. Nothing has changed with those plans. No amount of winning seemed like it was going to change the principal's mind. If anything, all of the public backing of Sully probably made him dig his heels in even more.

In my opinion, if the principal backs down now, he has no authority moving forward.

I think the decision was made and now its over with.

Cooper's season ended Friday, and this has been a hot topic for a month.  There's nothing wrong with asking the question, that's what this forum is for.  The longer it holds off, the more tension and distrust the Cooper administration creates for themselves.  And if they are going to release Coach Sullivan from his basketball duties, give him as much time as possible to find a new home with open opportunities.  Whether they like him (and the culture) or not, he's built a winning program at Cooper and has earned that level of respect.

The job has not been listed yet on the school district's employment portal.

So we need to add in another piece of the puzzle here - if not Coach Sullivan, who? If the principal has a name he wants, no rush to get that job listing out. If they want to cast the net far and wide, you want that out as soon as possible. Also, spring break sometimes screws with when these listings come out. Boone County School District's is next week so they may wait until after.

From what I have heard, the principal could give two hoots about athletics so that would tell me they definitely don't have anyone else in mind. My opinion, the job posts Friday before spring break, or even over spring break - with the interviews and hiring in the few weeks after spring break.

Realistically speaking, I find it hard to believe a high school would have as much athletic success under the watch of a principal who actually doesn't care about athletics. I think this is much more accurately described as a principal who has a major issue seeing eye to eye with his basketball coach any longer.

That is my thinking too, Cooper is fantastic in the main sports so I would have to think athletics is important to the Principal.  However, like you stated, clearly the Principal has an issue(s) with Coach Sullivan and wants him out.  I wish the Principal or Coach Sullivan would share the real reason(s) for this separation but I am not holding my breath.
