I'm not sure CCH has that much of a depth advantage this year. I was looking at rosters around Nky at the beginning of the season to scope out familiar last names from program to program and I was borderline shocked when I saw how few players CCH has on the roster this year.

Truly one of God's great mysteries how the only dirty plays in games are always done by the other team.

To follow up my prior post, with Dr. Stacy now gone I wonder if Coach Rash could more warmed to the idea of a longer return at Beechwood.

There has certainly been some talk around town in the past few years about whether or not there was a large rift between Noel Rash and former Beechwood superintendent Dr. Mike Stacy. Some of the rumors I heard circulating early after Noel's retirement also included details about Noel wishing to stay on teaching at Beechwood after stepping down as football coach, but Dr. Stacy declining to renew Noel's teaching contract without him also present on the football field. Without having heard directly from Noel, from someone with direct knowledge from within the Beechwood football program, or from someone directly inside the school it's hard to say what was the truth of the matter. I am assuming here, but my guess is that Coach Rash's and Dr. Stacy's working relationship was what The Guru was hinting at in the Beechwood season thread when he mentioned an elephant in the room.

I haven't had any run-ins with Bob since Coach Borchers left Cooper, but I heard from one friend of mine that he was considering a return to Dixie and in another conversation with a different acquaintance I was told that he has joined Woody McMillen at Ludlow. Bob is quite a resource for whichever program ends up getting to have him.

The impression I took from the original post was that he/she was asking about marquee games around the state, at large. I'm sure each individual team has at least a game or two every season that they consider their bigger or more marquee games, but that doesn't necessarily translate automatically into a marquee game around the whole state of Kentucky. I have no doubt the games you listed feel marquee for people in the Simon Kenton fan section, but thinking about things from the perspective of their opponents I don't know how much a game against Simon Kenton would really move the excitement needle much at all. How many program wins has Simon Kenton ever gotten against any one of those teams? It doesn't seem like there have been many at all, so I'm not sure what would really make those games register on the marquee list for the entire state.

That would obviously be some time savings for his morning commute. If Kings is the nearest school to his home and that job change wipes his commute down to an essential nil, then he would have what you could safely is the better part of an hour cut out of his morning commute. I have never known any primary or secondary school teachers who haven't been out the door in the morning by a quarter till 7 at latest. With that in mind, if I was a dissatisfied Beechwood administrator the question I have after reading the "be more present for my family" point in Coach Volker's statement would be what his family plans are in his newly established home hour between 5:45AM and 6:45AM. Also if I were in the role of a dissatisfied Beechwood administrator, I would probably point out the fact that according to Kings Local Schools' website, Kings High School starts at 7:25AM while and Beechwood's website lists Beechwood High School starting at 8:00AM.

After reading all of the comments in this thread and reading Coach Volker's tweet I feel like most of what Volker is saying only confirms what was said in this thread. His statement that he had that conversation with the players and the district does not address any of the concerns that his players or the district may have with his decision to teach in another school, though. Supporting your family better financially is certainly an understandable concern for anyone and it's hard to challenge him for making that decision for himself, but I'm guessing that the district is probably asking among themselves whether or not having a coach who is absent from their classrooms and hallways is truly the best case scenario for "pushing players to become the best versions of themselves on and off the field," most notably off the field. Thinking about this from the district perspective, is the best case scenario to have their marquee athletic program and one of the marquee athletic programs in the state led by a coach who is present at their school during the school day and is teaching in their own classrooms, or is the best case scenario to have that program led by a coach who is not present during the school day and is teaching elsewhere before commutes to their school and arrives for practice? I have no knowledge about where Coach Volker lives but if you are evaluating his statement critically, you also have to wonder how much truth there is to his second bullet point. If he is still going to continue maintaining the same amount of presence at Beechwood's football practices, games, and at all their offseason training and conditioning while teaching in another school he then he will presumably be having to leave his new job and commute directly to Beechwood for all of those duties, and then he will be commuting back home the same way that he has done for the past few seasons. So in effect wouldn't his only real time savings here be coming from an implied shorter morning commute to his new school rather than the commute he has been making to Beechwood? How much more presence at home does that really equate to? The only scenario I can really see for that point holding much water would be if he is leaving a full time teaching position at Beechwood for a part time position at another school wherein he won't have to spend nearly as much time at his new job as he does currently. If that is the case and a part time job in another school district is truly paying better than a full time job at Beechwood then that seems like quite a statement about the payscale at Beechwood, which draws its funding from a city with one of the highest property tax rates in Kentucky. The fact that Coach Volker is coming out publicly in any way to explain his decision at all seems like a sort of defense for making the decision, and if that's the case then who is he defending it to and why? It would seem to me that if all was truly well then Coach Volker would not feel compelled to make any kind of public statement like that. Reading between the lines, is it possible that his decision has upset some parties at Beechwood and now he is trying to reduce the blowback by attempting to make his decision look more understandable to those parties? And if there are upset parties at Beechwood, who are they? Are they players, parents, administrators, or some combination of all of those? What is known as fact is that Coach Volker made choice to teach elsewhere next year while hoping that he could continue on as head football coach at Beechwood. What I'm left questioning is whether, after being informed about his decision, now Beechwood administrators are questioning whether or not they should be letting that scenario play out or if they should try to find a new coach. Is Beechwood satisfied with the new employment scenario for Coach Volker? That does not appear to be addressed in Coach Volker's statement.

If Johnson keeps telling his assistant coaches that their entire purpose on gameday is to shut up and bring out stools during timeouts then I don't know how long he's going to have a staff at Holy Cross. And based on the nickname most of his players use to refer to him outside of practice it doesn't seem like he is notably beloved by his players. There was a time during early February where a couple of faculty members stepped in and helped convince some of the seniors on the team to finish out the season instead of quitting. I feel like Ricardo leaving Holy Cross would be a step in a better direction for Holy Cross basketball. I don't necessarily see where he would willingly leave to take over the program at Holmes, though, based on the current state of things at Holmes.

I don't know if it's just me, but if I was a coach who had any interest in looking out for the future of my coaching career then I would be swinging wide of anything to do with the Cooper athletic program right now.

That read as pretty matter of fact to me.

Proud of the Holy Cross seniors for continuing to stick with their program, even when the outcomes of some of their games have felt like a foregone conclusion before the game was even played.

The coaches haven't gotten a chance yet, you're correct. But as far as the school goes, and to a certain extent the program as an extension of the school, it just seems to be a story all too familiar from Scott that things are bobbled and blundered within the athletic department. Scott has had a titanic struggle to gain any real identity as an athletic program over more than 4 decades of existence, and this whole flap just seems to be another oh so familiar story from Taylor Mill. The KDE is clearly not standing strong behind any alleged rules to hold off on new football hires until a particular date, so why is Scott choosing to hold off on announcing their hire if they've actually made one already? They may well be following orders coming down from the school district, but if so, that just seems like yet another reason to vote no-confidence in the leadership at the Kenton County School District.

After watching for some years, if Scott's athletic department doesn't fumble the ball completely on things like this, then they have a long standing record of at least stumbling and tripping all over themselves on the way to the end zone.

For those of us who may not be so familiar with Louisville, is Valley the name of a neighborhood? Or is it the last name of someone the school was named after? I feel like I don't see the name come up too often in the news but I've always wondered. Same with Doss, as a matter of fact.

Casey needs to offer this job to Nelson Perrin, plain and simple. Perrin would be one of the youngest head coaches in recent NKY history, but Scott needs to do something to mix things up and change what they've had, or perhaps more accurately what they've not had going on for them in Taylor Mill.

Adam produced good things at Brossart. If you consider the feathers that the principal and athletic director ruffled by surreptitiously shuffling Paul Wiggins out the door and then add in the fact that Kozerski was the fourth coach to be offered the job at Brossart, I think he certainly exceeded expectations. I echo the sentiment that I hope everyone is okay in whatever situation Adam's personal reason is referring to, but admittedly there is a part of me that wonders if his personal reason was simply not being cut out for the head coaching lifestyle. I still remember exactly when I was told he had applied for the job because of how much of a surprise it was to hear that he was even interested to be a head coach at all. He never had struck me as the type, and frankly he still doesn't strike me as fitting the archetypal 'head coach' mold.

Steve Lickert is a good thing for the NewCath football program and I'd debate all day long with anyone who tried to claim otherwise. However, although I don't imagine it's ever really a contractual requirement for a principal to be present at specific events, I couldn't tell you the last time that I went to a high school football game when either of the teams was playing without their principal in attendance. The idea of a high school principal never planning on going to their school's football games is a head scratcher.

Does clearing house of career-type employees of the KHSAA count as a change to Kentucky high school football? That organization is the same people trained by the same people trained by the same people so it comes as no surprise that they lack the ability to embrace divergent thinking and they never really pursue much in the way of new or creative ideas. Furthermore, most of the senior staff members walk around with an I'm always right attitude and approach anyone with a new idea with a smarmy 'oh bless your heart' kind of response. If we want to look for progress forward for Kentucky high school football then its best to cut off the pompous and close-minded head of the snake in Lexington and reset the checker board.

How many football teams have taken down Highlands 5 times in a row when they've played at David Cecil Memorial Stadium?

That's definitely the point I was trying to make, yes.

A-Koz is making some strides with the program. Last year both of these teams had new head coaches and the Mustangs won 31-6. Brossart finished out the season 9-3 and lost to NCC in the second round of the playoffs so it's clear that Adam was doing some things right. The game was played at Walton-Verona again this year and it was a significantly closer score. Did Walton-Verona take a bigger step forward than Brossart in the year that has passed, or did Brossart take a little step back?

I talked to some folks pretty recently and we were all wondering out loud about why St. Henry felt like they needed to push their self-imposed timeline up a year to move into varsity. I recall when John and the Holy Cross team took big losses in their first season or two back in the late 1990's and I know Randy and the Cooper boys also took some big losses in their first two seasons. Cooper started off their program by playing two of the rivals in their school district in Ryle and Conner though. Those were very capable teams, to say the least. Let's be honest here though, as much as I'm a Holy Cross fan, it's is a struggling football program right now. Like theguru said Rome wasn't built in a day, but getting clobbered like that by the current Holy Cross program is more like having your blanket fort knocked over than it is having the Murus Romuli tested by tribes from the barbarian kingdoms.

Aaron Floyd is a cornerback who graduated from Boone in the class of 2015 and played 4 years at UofL and then one more year at UT-Chattanooga as a graduate transfer. John Mark Shutt is a class of 2019 linebacker/fullback who played at Concordia Ann Arbor. Dvion Davis is a class of 2022 cornerback currently at KY Wesleyan. Tyler Whipple is a class of 2023 wide receiver who played at Morehead State and transferred out. I think he ended up at Hanover but I'm not sure if he made the football team. Kaleb Byndon is a class of 2023 defensive back who played at Anderson University and transferred out after his freshman year. I think he ended up at KY State. Elijah Johnathan is a class of 2023 WR who also played at Anderson University and transferred out after his freshman year. I'm not sure if he has resurfaced anywhere.
