Bishop Brossart 15 Walton-Verona 7

Featured Replies

I want to hear more about this game.

Defensive battle. WV scored on a pick 6. BB had to really nice jump ball catches in the end zone. Could definitely tell it was a first week game, turnovers, penalties, a lot of guys cramping up.

Brossart is going to be a solid team, that defense is tough. They did lose #3 to injury - hope he ends up okay.

Walton will be okay, they were right there with BB the entire game, just have to get the offense going.

This was a good opening game for Brossart.

Heard there were a lot to mistakes and turnovers. Both teams trying to figure things out early in the season. Did hear that’s someone on Brossart got hurt hope he is okays. Prayers out to him and his family!

Lots of mistakes for both teams, as it being the first game definitely showed. Both defenses played great, Brossart was able to create a few more plays on offense. Including two really nice long contested jump ball catches by their receivers on 4th down for touchdowns. Other that Walton-Verona’s defense played great, keeping them in the game. Even though the offense put them in bad spots a lot of the night.

Brossart was in Walton-Verona backfield all night, making it hard for WV to get much going. WV did get inside Brossart 30 twice in the fourth Quarter, but Brossart defense held strong.

It was an ugly game in regards to mistakes by both sides, but also a very hard fought football game by two teams that should have good years. Hopefully the player that got injured for Brossart is able to make it back this year.

Got to say I find this disappointing from the Walton Verona side of things. I was expecting more from them this year. Game 1 so who knows who is what, but I was looking for more from WV.

Definitely disappointing from the offensive side of the ball. Their defense played great, but offense struggled for sure. As Brossart defense didn’t really let them get much going at all.

A-Koz is making some strides with the program. Last year both of these teams had new head coaches and the Mustangs won 31-6. Brossart finished out the season 9-3 and lost to NCC in the second round of the playoffs so it's clear that Adam was doing some things right. The game was played at Walton-Verona again this year and it was a significantly closer score. Did Walton-Verona take a bigger step forward than Brossart in the year that has passed, or did Brossart take a little step back?

I believe Walton-Verona had some injuries very early last year. They got better and healthy as the season went. But Brossart did lose some good players from last season.

Pretty good descriptions rendered above.

After watching our two pre-season scrimmages, where we looked very cohesive, I felt that we were out of synch for much of the night on offense.  Credit Walton, they stood us up on defense, and did a great job defending our receivers.  It took over 3 hours  to play this game.  Brossart rarely draws anywhere close to the numbers of flags assessed against us tonight, especially in the first half.  This is something that can and I expect that we will improve on moving forward.

Following our two pre-season scrimmages, and having come to Walton and winning big a year ago, I had high hopes that we might win sizably, and look good doing it here tonight, which was not the case.   I'm thinking neither fan base were overly enthralled which their team's performance tonight.

There were some outstanding individual efforts.  Brayden Donato intercepted a Brossart pass for a Pick-Six.  Cooper Burch and A.J. Yutze were dominant on defense.  Mustang Junior Quarterback Landon Spaulding threw two touchdown passes, one to Nick Cozzi and the other to Isaac Amin.  Our Blue-chip kicker, Max Runge nailed a 29 yard Field Goal which gave the Mustangs 15, which was enough to win on this night.

The Mustangs return home next Friday night, hosting the class 1A State Champion Sayre Spartans.  We will have to take a step forward in order to be 2-0 a week from now.
