Good afternoon,

Beechwood High School would like to share an important announcement regarding the Beechwood Tigers Football program. Coach Jay Volker recently accepted a teaching position in Ohio to be closer to his family. With that said, he aimed to continue his role as Beechwood head football coach to maintain continuity this late in the year since football workouts begin June 1st. We are fortunate to have Coach Volker continue to model such professionalism and dedication to the program.

Beechwood Administration and Beechwood Athletics have been in discussions with Coach Volker about the vision and future of Beechwood Football. In that lengthy collaboration, we have all agreed to move forward with recommending the appointment of Mr. Noel Rash as the next coach of Beechwood Football.

Coach Volker and Coach Rash have been working together to ensure a smooth transition for the program. Due to the timing of Coach Volker’s departure and the nature of the situation, Beechwood Schools has moved forward with the appointment of Coach Rash.

Beechwood Schools regards Jay Volker alongside Coach Barre, Coach Yeagle, and Coach Rash as yet another state champion football coach. We thank Jay in not only maintaining, but elevating the commitment, the sacrifice, and the brotherhood - THE standard of Beechwood Football. Coach Volker’s legacy has been etched.

At the same time, we welcome back Coach Noel Rash to Beechwood Football. Thrilled is an understatement in how the Tiger Football family is feeling right now. A legend is coming home only to build upon that legacy he worked so hard to build.

Coach Rash is excited to work with Coach Volker and the coaching staff in a transition plan in order to hit the ground running on June 1, 2026.

Wow, what a turn of events.

I figured this could be a distinct possibility when I read that Coach Volker was going to teach in Ohio. I've always felt that Beechwood has had outstanding coaches and play a good early season schedule. This is definitely not a knock on their success, but they usually are not tested until the state semifinals. I have always had a great deal of respect for Coach Rash but what he did last year for the kids at Conner was above and beyond any championship he had won. Not only is he an HOF coach, he's an HOF man!! Keep it rolling Noel!!!

This may be the strangest turn of events I ever remember.  

Is there more to this? Meaning was Volker liked in the Beechwood community?

Best of luck to both, but this seems odd.

When you read this thread I don't think it is very strange/odd:

Congrats to coach Rash!!! While it obviously wouldn’t have mattered, cause as long as Rash wanted to come back it would have been him. I’m curious how they were able to get around legally having to post the job.

Oh, good point.  That may open up a legal issue for the district if anyone throws a fit.

Also, how old is Coach Rash?  Is this a one year deal? 2? Because as an outsider looking in, while Beechwood being a storied program, you have the last 2 people that were head coaches being forced out, and right now the 3rd head coach in 6 years (even though it's only been 2 people).  The optics look really bad for those outside Ft. Mitchell.  Combine that with the issues that the former superintendent and that fiasco and Beechwood looks like a dumpster fire right now.  But as the old saying goes, winning fixes everything.

I have him at 193-46 (80.7 Winning Percentage) from 2006-2022 with 5 Class 1A titles and 3 class 2A titles.

My question exactly- will this be a short stint or is he back for the long haul?

What are the posting requirements if you hire someone as football coach only and no other job in the school?

I don't know if that is the case here. Just asking what the rule is for that situation.

I've asked a time or two in some of the hundreds of open job threads over past years if someone could come up with the actual text of the state's rules for coaching job postings, because I've never been able to locate it myself. As far as I know I've never seen that text posted here or anywhere else.

There frequently seems to be a discussion of whether or not a job ACTUALLY has to be posted for 30 days, whether or not that 30 day policy applies if a district hires someone who is already a district employee as coach, whether or not that rule differs from district to district, and sometimes even whether it actually is a state policy or if those rules are left entirely to the individual school districts to establish. I'd love to see a comprehensive answer to those questions.
