Boyle County 41 Covington Catholic 0 (4A State Championship)

Boyle's continued success with some Danville transfers means you can expect more of that in the future, which is not good for the Ads long-term.

Congrats to the Rebels on an amazing season.  They just decimated their competition.

Boyle County owned all 48 minutes of football tonight in Lexington. The Rebels had speed, size, talent, and depth. Their stars showed up as advertised. Covington Catholic had a great season for 1

  • Mr. Tackett, I’ve come to conclusion that your new RPI system sucks.

I know Eviston was taking some heat in the game thread and has all year, but I think this was one of his best coaching jobs. This Cov Cath team was lacking in the star player category. A lot of very g

First off congrats to Boyle County. But in my opinion this had to be the most boring game I witnessed.  I totally understand running the football and being successful is crucial, but when it’s not, throw the dang ball.

I thought Demauriah Brown did a great job on Willie Rodriguez tonight.

How many times did they throw to Willie?

I was very impressed by Boyle’s defense, they were squatting on every route under 15 yards. Eventually we needed to try to hit them over the top with a go ball, double move or post and have our WR high point it since obviously we were not running away from them.

I am glad you brought this point up. I did not see a lot of Cov Cath games this year but it didn't seem to me that they threw the deep pass much this year. It also seemed like they did less of the jet sweeps. Eviston usually likes to make a defense cover the whole field. He especially likes to go wide with plays and make a defense cover sideline to sideline. Maybe he didn't feel like he had the speed to do those two things?

Another thought - why not get Harney on the offensive side of the ball at WR? He has speed and is very elusive. He is a threat in the open field.

Graduating with four rings is a big time flex. Congrats Rebels!

It was more about Pitzer being pretty limited with his arm strength. He still had a great season and was a really good high school QB, but his game isn’t pushing the ball down the field vertically.

We had some success with Braylon Miller on jet sweeps this season, but the Boyle safeties were running the alley so quickly and are better athletes that we obviously didn’t have much success (why you push crack as a receiver vs Quarters…make the corner tackle instead of the safety)

14-1.  State Runner up.  Beating the rival Highlands and Beechwood.   A great season for these CC seniors

Yep. Got their Banquet wins.

I personally was worried about CC's size.  I thought they would shorten the field and be able to run the ball better than they did.  I know Boyle's speed in the secondary takes some stuff away but I thought they would do better with their much bigger targets.  Little possession curls and to jump ball type stuff.  I also thought Leen would have to have a pretty big game and Boyle was able to limit him for the most part.  I actually didn't think CC's defense played bad.  They just couldn't get off the field.

Heard on the way home that CC was 0/13 combined on 3rd and 4th downs.  Just couldn't move the chains.

Absolutely awesome!!

Not that it matters, but the stats show he had 1 catch on 3 targets.

Congrats to Boyle County. Very impressive performance. Quisenberry is the straw that stirs the drink for them.

With the mess Danville had with Clevenger, is Pandora’s box open forever, with players going to try and get to Boyle Co however they can? If you live in Danville is there any issue with choosing Boyle instead?

We knew Boyle County would put up some points but the defense, wow! The Rebels were in the quarterbacks face all night. They limited Covington Catholic. Truly impressive performance.

I think the stats said 3 or 4 targets.
