Sorry Somerset has not shown me they would come close to the top 4. Clevenger is doing some great stuff with a rebuilding program. They are not there yet. I have faith he will get them back to a championship level, its just not happening year 1.

The #1 seed overall will have the easiest path to the title game but they will have a tough opponent in the title game, but that will be their only playoff game against one of the top 4.

Beechwood will likely have a top 4 opponent in the semifinals so they will have to beat two top 4 opponents to win the title.

The two teams in the west that are not the #1 seed will have the added challenge of facing a top 4 team in round 3. So they will have to beat all 3 of the top 4 to win the title.

Why is LCA in the West? Is it to balance the teams out in 2A? Seems like most Lexington schools in other classes like 4, 5 and 6A are in the East.

LCA is in the "western-est" 2A East District, so I think you're on the right track.

I visualize school locations from their basketball Regions. Those remain more stable, and there's only one class. Does get sticky, when North/Central KY District 5 is in the East with four 8th Region teams. ?

LCA in District 6 would have been interesting.

I've been pondering this one for a while when it came apparent the route the #1 seed would have. I'll ask the question..... Would it be better to have an easy path to the championship game, and maybe even running clock teams until the championship game as the #1 or have a challenging round 3 and 4 game? The team that makes it thru that gauntlet, if healthy, will be ready for the championship game while the team with the easy path may have to adjust to the speed of the game, playing their toughest opponent in weeks if not months.

Also, the #2 seed is also very important in this scenario as that team would at least have home field advantage until the championship game.

LCA in District 6 would have been interesting.

Until last realignment cycle LCA was in District 6 along with Washington County. This last cycle both were moved to District 4.

Beechwood last year playoffs.... 55-0 Trimble 62-14 Carroll Co. 49-12 Shelby Valley 48-0 Lloyd Memorial 14-13 Mayfield Seems like Beechwood had that last year and still won.  I think Mayfield had the one tough game in the Semi's.  Would be a good questions for the Mayfield fans on the thread.

In 2021 Beechwood had scenario 2 from my post above. They faced a top 4 team - Mayfield - in the semi finals. 

In 2022 Beechwood had scenario 1 and did not face a top 4 team till the title game.

Beechwood won the championship both years.

After looking at this very closely, has anyone else come up with anything different than round 4 looking more than likely like this:

Somerset/Shelby Valley winner @ Owensboro Catholic

Beechwood @ LCA

I hope this happens especially for the city of Owensboro. 

Still have a few weeks. I hope Beechwood or LCA doesn't move up. Can this happen or does OC have the RPI top spot rapped up?

If Somerset were to make the final four that would be a huge thing for them.  Don't think a lot of people would've penciled them into that spot to start the season.

I don't see LCA moving up.  They have the weakest district schedule and their last game is against a 1A Raceland team.  OC district isn't much better.  But they face a 6A North Hardin team on the road their final game.
