From the KHSAA back in January:

The Board approved the recommendation for football RPI calculations to allow for two “down-play” games. This will permit each team’s first two games played against an opponent from a lower class not to include the class factor, allowing even the perception of RPI impact not to impact scheduling. The RPI factor of out-of-state opponents remains unchanged for the 2023 football season. The Board also elected to adjust football RPI calculations regarding the withdrawal of teams from competition. The RPI class factor will stay the same for any school that withdraws during the season at the level of that team when game contracts were signed (rather than defaulting to a no-class factor if a team withdraws).

Interestingly  enough, RPI just updated and the new top four is:

1. Owensboro Catholic

2. Beechwood (moves from 4 to 2)

3. LCA (moves from 2 to 3)

4. Mayfield (moves from 3 to 4)

That changed from around 1130 am to now....very interesting.

All of this will change in about 10 hours. Numbers were 1.22 and 1.18. Now they are low low low

When I turned in last night, there were a few unreported scores. That must have changed this morning. Win/loss changes from the previous night usually don't change until 2-3 am. Every reported score can move the needle.

RPI Domino Effect: Every team that played- every team that played them-every team that played the thems, had skin in the game.

The more I look at this and remaining schedule. Catholic is going to drop a spot if some teams don’t win some games. 

So with the updated standings, what would the final 4 look like?

Raceland will help LCA but I think Owensboro Catholic will get more help due to the added factor of playing a 6A opponent.

Do you know if this applies only to teams in a class lower, or can it apply to teams in the same class if those are the two lowest class teams on a team's schedule. 

To be specific, Beechwood's two lowest class opponents are in 2A. Does Beechwood drop the classification factor on those two teams? If yes, does that help or hurt Beechwood's KHSAA RPI?

I have no idea and won't even pretend to be a RPI expert. 

My opinion with Flip or no flip, LCA is best team in 2A with Beechwood close in at 2nd where they’ll have to prove themselves again whether it be in the Semi’s or in the State 2A Championship. 
 

What I love is that Beechwood has been there before so many times and they just play regardless if Beechwood fans chime in or not, they just let the play speak for itself.

I think Mayfield would beat anyone in 2A by double digits other than LCA.

I think Beechwood is a little better than Mayfield but it is close.
