I don't see how the Bills and Bengals could play what they did Monday night, play again this Sunday, play again next Thursday, and then play again on next Saturday or Sunday without pushing the first week of the playoffs back.

Exactly. It's too much football for a professional team. This week's game being scheduled for 1 makes me wonder if this game just gets cancelled and the NFL uses winning percentage for seeding going forward (suggested by Mike Florio). If so, that essentially makes this week's game meaningless for the AFC North division.

Happened in NKY years ago. Sometimes tragedy is that which leads to significant change. That young man's family began an initiative to have AEDs at fields, schools, gyms, etc. and to provide training for coaches, parents, field managers, and others. It was really a success.

Was this basically what happened to Scott Christian, Boone County soccer player in the early 90's?

Don't know why but I just remember that it was very similar.  Anyone know?

I remember that story.   I thought that was more of an abdominal injury, but I could be confusing that with something else.

I also remember a story a while back where there was little league baseballer that took a foul ball to the chest that later passed away.  I believe this would be similar.

I played soccer at Boone County, but also remember volunteering at the Scott Christian Memorial Soccer Tournament a few years in a row.  

I think he unfortunately took a knee to either his chest or his abdomen.  Not sure and can't remember.

Scott Christian died of peritonitis. The hit in his abdomen caused a small laceration in his small intestine and the bowel leak caused the infection that killed him.

It wasn't from a kicked ball, though...I've heard a bunch of folks incorrectly remember the incident over the years as being the result of a kicked ball to his chest. He actually took a knee in his stomach as he and another couple of players went up for a headball. Came out of the game after the play, but then went back in after he said he felt better. Then he started throwing up pretty violently on the field and was taken to the hospital. He was incorrectly diagnosed with a bruised diaphragm and sent home. Started vomiting blood the following night, and died the next morning at the hospital.

Thanks for clarifying everything. Remember they had his jersey near the main entrance of the high school. Was a great young athlete gone too soon.
