You can't go there with those UK teams, especially the 13-14 team.  That team was the preseason number one and played poorly enough to drop out off the rankings before finally playing up to their potential in the tournament.  The 10-11 team was preseason number 11.

As for Cal I’m definitely not defending last year and now this loss. We have seen it happen to every coach including coach K,  but still doesn’t make it any better or acceptable. These last two years and the results definitely not acceptable, and he must do better. No argument there.

By that logic he never had a chance to overachieve then.  What is the lowest preseason rank Kentucky has had in his tenure?

Kentucky went to a 3 guard lineup this season because of their depth at that position.  They found their stride in January and have regressed ever since.

Can go there because we see all the time pre season rankings mean nothing. 2011 team then beating top teams like OSU and UNC along the way. 2014 beating undefeated 1 seed, the defending National Champs in Louisville, etc.

I think he was a way better coach back in the UMass days.  His Memphis teams had a bunch of talent and he still had more NBA players on his teams in 11 and 14 than most of his opponents, even the ones that were ranked ahead of them.  He "Loves BEING the Coach" but I don't think he "Loves TO Coach".

 How do you know that? They ran a play that they didn't run all night. It looked like they knew what they wanted to run and they just didn't make it work.

I am gonna sit this one out until I sober up. but in the mean time, I am sure BGP ownership appreciates you finally showing up in College bball threads again (I was hoping it would be a little later in the tournament but glad you got your moment).

Let’s not forget the 2014 team did that also whole WCS was out injured. So the only true NBA player on that team for that run was Randle. 

This is what happens when you let an interior team dictate pace and force you to play the way they want.  Let them hit a few threes and you're in a fight for your life.  Letting St. Peters dictate pace falls squarely on Cal.  This loss is on him and I think he'll say as much. 

I hate it because I really liked watching them play. They had great energy and seemed to enjoy playing together.  However, ultimately this team will be known for losing to a 15 seed as much as Oscar's historic season. 

 

After last season and the way the team finished the this season, by going 5-4 down the stretch, I think Cal has to deliver a legit title contender with a deep tourney run next season or it might be time to move on.
