GRC, Ashland and Male.  One of these teams will be crowned when the dust settles. 

Male and GRC are my top two. 
Cov Cath and Ashland are three and four. 
WC is five.  
I believe there is a wide gap after those five. 
I think the State Tournament winner comes from that group.

I think this is right except that I think North Laurel is in a similar category with Warren Central, but probably has a better chance because of draw.

After seeing him twice, Sheppard is deceptively good. An odd thing to say probably about a kid that is top 25 or top 50 in the country I know.  People are enamored with the highlight reel stuff, dunks and threes. I was amazed at his ability to control a game. All little things that won’t show in the box score. His team honestly, outside of himself and perhaps his cousin, just isn’t very talented and really doesn’t have much right to play evenly with the best teams. But they do, and it’s not because he personally goes 1 on 5 to keep them in it.  He orchestrates is the way I’d say it.  The point to all that blathering is I agree with the above post, North Laurel is a team that can go further than maybe they ought to.

So GRC and Male would be my top 2.  Would include Covington Catholic and North Laurel in a next tier.  Ashland would also be in the group, but I wonder if they are so beat up I wonder if we’re seeing the real version of that team.

Is his cousin the young man who looks like he could play college football?  You can tell that guy is a straight-up athlete.  You are correct though, they will have trouble winning 4 games against quality competition with no depth.  Sheppard does know how to control a game.

After watching 7th region final, Kevin Glenn is probably the best player in the tourney and yes, I have seen Chapman play in person.  Cannot speak on the Cov Cath kids as I have not seen them.

Is Kevin Glenn, Kaleb Glenn's brother?  Who is Chapman?

Yes, that's him - Ryan Davidson.  After their 8th grade season (I think?), Sheppard, Davidson, Kaleb Glenn and Dallas Roberts played for the same AAU team that my son played for (he was a grade younger, so I only saw the older team occasionally).   I knew they were good, but it's interesting to see just how celebrated Glenn and Sheppard are now, especially.  They have all changed physically, of course - but Glenn and Davidson are really different now.  I think Glenn simply matured.  He was kind of lanky at the time, but now - upper body at least - looks like he could be an H back.  Davidson, I read a newspaper account sometime in the last few months which quoted him as saying his physical transformation was very intentional.  That team didn't have much size, and so he set about to change his body and get bigger.  Mission accomplished, I'd say.....

My assumption is that he is talking about Reed Sheppard and didn't know which former Kentucky basketball player has a son playing high school basketball.

I've tossed it around in my mind who I think will win the Sweet 16, and with a few legit choices I've given up on trying to nail it down in an attempt to appear to be a genius. With that said, the thought that Warren Central is a dangerous team floating somewhere under the radar keeps circling around my head. Tall order of course to have to face Male right out of the gate, and sure as rain I could be way off, but can't help but to just go ahead, and go with my gut. Who knows, but with that choice I may end up sounding like a genius after all...or not.

If Central had a better draw I think they’d be getting a lot of love as a dark horse. I believe in them, of course, but I’m not completely objective there. 
 

If Warren Central can start well against Male, I really think they can take them down. I still remember their 2010 game against Ballard when they got down 19-1, and spent the whole game fighting back. (I’d rather not talk about how that ended)  They can’t afford a poor start here IMO. 

I've felt since the brackets came out that it would be Covington Catholic beating George Rogers Clark for the championship. I think this shapes up as a very good state tournament, but in my opinion the will come from the CovCath/GRC/Male contingent. Warren Central might be the fourth team if they can knock off Male. Ashland, Henry Clay, and maybe North Oldham could make a run if all the chips fall right, but I don't foresee any of them winning a title.

Male and Ashland in the next tier, IMO....but I'm probably talking a paper-thin difference between those two and the first two...

I also believe that there could be a lot of "surprises" in this year's tournament.   Get an upset here in this game, and suddenly the next two games are impacted.    Teams upsetting teams who just pulled upsets.    The tournament version of the domino effect.   And which ones will be true, bone fide "upsets"?     There's teams in this tournament who have lost 3 or 4 game against tournament competition - but who have been extremely competitive against that competition.   There are certainly some players who are standout individuals - way ahead of their classmates - but I think that the gaps between teams may not be as great as it has been in past tournaments.

Wouldn't be surprised at all to see North Oldham or North Laurel get to Saturday morning.

Maybe.   LOL!   

I do think this will be a fun tournament.   I'm going to get out my darts now.....
