What would you do with 6A teams that win a state championship and since there is nowhere to move them to how would that be fair to the 5A teams forced to move up?  In short, that is not the answer.  

I used to dislike how Ohio does it. Now I’m starting to like it more and more.

Agreed.  Greatest life lessons in the entire world comes from football.  Couldn't agree more... But how do we get MORE kids on the field to learn those life lessons?  Top 2 teams making the playoff is great by me!  Better football; but how do we make the regular season more competitive and get more kids out there.

Kids (everyone) have so many choices on how to spend their time that the ultimate answer is probably less high school football teams and in some cases (Newport, Dayton, & Bellevue come to mind) less high schools.

I believe it is possible to run a program successfully regardless of being competitive on the field. Does winning help? Sure, winning is fun. And winning breeds more winning.

But it is totally possible for coaches of programs who do not have the talent, or the resources, or in a brutal district to have a successful regular season.

What does that look like? Well, if kids have fun, that’s really all that matters. How do you do that without winning? Hire a staff that cares about the kids, makes it more enjoyable to be there every day, not necessarily putting an emphasis on winning, and surely not winning at all costs. Providing memorable experiences for the kids, weather team events, retreats, community activities. Encourage the promotion and success of other athletic programs within the school. Johnny is the QB and the PF in basketball, his basketball teammate Timmy is his best friend, and Timmy doesn’t play football. But Timmy sees the football staff and all of Johnny’s teammates at the game supporting him, now Timmy wants to be apart of that. School promotion of the games, allowing the community to show up and show out. Kids care about being recognized, whether that’s in the local paper, the barber shop, or in the classroom by a teacher for something they did on the field.

Schools and coaches have to get creative. 

The key is providing the athletes with a memorable experience, and often times, when you do those little things right and care about the kids, the wins will eventually follow. And even if they don’t, remind yourselves that the highest level of football every year, has teams that struggle. 
 

It’s life. It’s football. You may never win state, you may never win district, you may never even win a game. In that case, you as a staff, a school, and a community must reevaluate what you call success. And it should have nothing to do with the Win column. 

Estill should petition to get out of Belfry’s district. That’s a 3-4 trip. Swap Estill and Russell.

Everyone needs to realize that 1 class, 3 classes, 6 classes, only top 2 per district or just district champs...There will ALWAYS be running clock games in the playoffs. The best that we can do is make the field as fair and level as possible for every team, but some programs will always be dominant and some will always struggle for a variety of reasons.

The 5A sister districts of 5 and 6 will be some very tough matchups in the first two rounds for all teams involved. 

In 6A four years ago. They use to rotate the district you would play every year in the playoffs. So this way you weren’t playing the same district each year. I think if they would do that every year to go along with the current RPI they use for regional and semifinals, it would create a lot of excitement and allow for more teams to see each other. Plus could prevent two strong districts from knocking each other out in first two rounds every year. 

Meade County getting upgrade in schedule in first draft of districts. Same district with St. X, Manual, Pleasure Ridge Park. I think Meade County is a upgrade over Butler who is dropping to 5A. I can't say St. X has ever gone out of Jefferson County before for district game. Probably same for Manual and I'm not sure about PRP. Probably first for Meade County being in Jefferson County district but I'm not sure on that.

So true. I can just about guarantee not a single kids life is ruined or sent down the road of entitlement and horrible adulthood because they got to play an extra football game in the playoffs after their team only won a game or two during the regular season. There are so many bigger problems facing todays teenagers than this. We’re trying to fix a problem that really doesn’t need fixing, and none of the solutions really “fix” the problem anyway. How about we just call the first round week 11 instead of the playoffs and move on.
