Covington Catholic 38 Highlands 8

Featured Replies

As an outsider looking in, and not knowing the program all that well other than its historically been one of the best in Kentucky during my lifetime, I wonder if the team actually looked better this year than last, did they get better as the year went along or did they regress and make the same mistakes as the previous years.

I know its the first year for this staff, but it seems like they had very similar results as the last coaching staff record wise and score wise, but those things don't always show the growth the team made even with the record, and I haven't seen Highlands play nearly enough for me to know that.

  • Building a program? I thought the talent was already there?

  • If people keep saying it over and over, it will be right eventually I suppose.

Score looks way closer than the game actually was. Embarrassing. All three phases were not only beat on the field but also out coached. I will be interested to see if some of the "lifers" on here call

I hear you. But the fact is there is talent there. We'll see if a full off season under the new staff has an impact.

Didn't the new guys start March 1? I assume some guys were finishing winter sports and participated in spring sports? So other than the dead period they had them pretty much of the time right?

When does football off season weight lifting and training start?

The past program conditioning was not the same.  Coach first words we are 20 lbs light per Man talking muscle.  Nevels joined the fold.  You can say what you want about the end result; however, I can say with certainty that if my Boy could conjure up eligibility he would stay and fight with this staff and underclass man.  His exact words early starts in the weight room in season and the dedication to craft is special.  If I had this for 3 years we would not be discussing which school might offer but rather who would I like to pick.  Trust the process.

Truth of the matter is nothing is wrong at HHS; the other programs in NKY has gotten a lot better.  We are going to adjust and up the game.

When does it stop?   It don't.

For a sophomore I thought he looked very talented.

He reminds me of Giovani Bernard.

What school do you think he might go to next?   Hopefully he stays put but….

And that is my point. Even if the new coaches got to Ft. Thomas in March, they were way behind on all the off season action that happens in the top football programs. This coming year will be their first full off season. We will see if their first full off season makes an impact next fall.

Covington Catholic outgained Highlands 453 yards to 161 yards. Figured it was lopsided, but didn't know it was that big a margin. Colonels obviously came to play.

Two semi-serious questions from an outsider looking in.

When, if ever, does a rivalry cease to become a rivalry?  I’m guessing that CCHS-HHS will pretty much always be considered a rivalry, even if one side dominates for an extended stretch.  Too much history to stop calling it a rivalry after just a few years.

Has HHS become a basketball school?

Its a rivalry for Highlands..

It’s not for CovCath?  Please explain.

Highlands:   New coach for local school was 23 and 20 his last 4 years and 5-6 in 2020. He was on his way out..(Posted in July)

Just want to clear some things up.

Current QB is not even close to Caleb. Caleb has an unmatched work ethic in the off season and current has none. Direct snap and run... Play Zion at QB and get more TD's? Bottom line is I've seen and spent a lot of time watching offseason workouts with Caleb to know he's FAR better.

Prayers to Brian, Jenn, Eddie, Maylia(Sorry if spelling is wrong) Rhonda and all the kids. If public knew how much he met to them maybe it would lessen comments about E?

It is an honor to have your son play for Eddie. I know through hard times he will pull your son aside and whether it is in the cafeteria or his office he will always make time to find out what is wrong. If your son is not playing then ask him why and he will tell you.

Bottom line is he is a GREAT person that only wants what's best for his players.

Why not credit Peyton, the O and D line, backers ... they play at a high level?

It still is for CCH, players and staff. They still prepare like crazy for every game against the birds, regardless of record or previous outcomes.
