Two of the top defenses in the state lived up to their billing. It's incredible that CovCath was that good defensively after losing so much from last year on that side of the ball.

The scrum was still moving forward I think thats why they didn't blow the whisle. Still a heartbreaking loss but this win certainly makes up for that imo. Casey McGinnis was awesome last year btw. South Warren was just a monster team.

Devin Neal I know has offers on the table from Cincinnati and now Baylor a couple of weeks ago.

Hard to believe this was the only close game for CC this year. Congrats to a great team with that solid mix of exceptional coaching, good talent and one superstar.

And it was a big 4th quarter come from behind win by CCH which Mayer almost single handedly led. Mayer was in the middle of almost every offensive play in the 4th quarter comeback catching the ball, running it or lead blocking runs and on defense. That 4th quarter against Lex Cath is a highlight reel for Mayer.

He may still go to Cincy but I know for a fact he is seriously considering Baylor as well. I hope he goes to Cincinnati so could drive up and watch him. He’s a great kid never gets to high or to low just goes out and does his job on both sides of the ball.

Thought this would be the tightest game of the day, and it had the largest margin of victory. Just shows how great Kentucky high school football was today.

CCH only won the Highlands game 13-0, but only because CCH didn't want to run up the score. :lol2: Looks like they did the same thing tonight. :lol2:

 

On a serious note, Congrats to CCH and wish Mike Mayer the best in the future.

Michael Mayer is a BAD man. Should be your Mr. Football hands down.

Fantastic high school football. Both teams well coached with lots of impressive players on both teams.

I know people are excited but the game wasn't. There was 3 good drives in the game. The rest of the game really wasn't. Mayer set the tone on his first tackle when he picked up their running back and dumped him. I felt that Mayer should have definitely got more touches. CCH's defense is the real deal. The better team definitely won this game.

Was the field goal blocked or touched at all? Looked like the wider HS posts would have meant 3. Thought the attempt certainly the right call as accurate as Gronotte has been.

I don't believe it was touched. Douglass had a good rush on the kick, which is something Trey hasn't seen a lot of this year.

 

I was probably 30 rows back in the stands though, and could hear the thump of the kick. Cold footballs aren't easy to kick. Plus, I'm not sure how wide right the ball went, but he was kicking into a college upright instead of a high school upright.
