The Covington Catholic Colonels took the opening kickoff and marched down the field to go up 7 to 0 on a short Owen Nally TD run.

Michael Mayer was his usual monster self on defense and he had a long catch and run that set up CovCath's second TD.

Frederick Douglass WR Ty Bryant scored on a reverse with 911 to go in the 4th quarter to make it 14 to 7. Devin Neal was a workhorse for the Frederick Douglass Broncos.

The win gives Covington Catholic their 8th Kentucky High School State Football Championship.

Congrats CovCath! Congrats Coach Eviston!

44-1 with two titles in three years and four points is all that's separated them from an unbeaten three-peat.

Congratulations to CovCath and all their fans here at BGP. This is a special run they're on. It's been fun covering 5A the past couple of years and following this program. Eviston's cooking with gas in Park Hills.

It wasn't hype or bias people. Michael Mayer is the real deal. I know it's a team game but that championship and undefeated season are all about Michael Mayer.

I hope everyone there appreciates what he's given them the last couple of years. CovCath might not see his like again, at least not any time soon.

Congrats to Covcath. Also to the Fredrick Douglas crowd who complained some about the offense tonight. Literally almost every fan base has complained about their offense against Covcath. At the end of the day Covcath defense is just that good and makes everyone’s offense look bad.
