Your Big Mac's might not be any good, but it's not because of fresh beef.

 

Well, they do not taste the same ever since this new "fresh beef" campaign. I trust my taste buds.

 

The quarter pounder definitely tastes worse than before. Maybe this is a good reason for me to curb my visits. :lol2:

It has been a while since I ate at Gold Star so I may have to stop there again and see what the difference is. My recollection is it was pretty much the same as Skyline. Dixie Chili I can definitely taste a difference in their sauce, but Skyline and Gold Star are pretty much the same from what I remember.

 

I love Cincy chili so I can surely taste the difference in the two. Just about all Cincy style chili parlor are all different. Camp Washington Chili, Price Hill, Blue Jay, Pleasant Ridge, Dixie, Blue Ash, all have their own taste.

I've no idea what Daddy's Grill is, but I, for one, will GLADLY shell out the bucks for a steak at Ruby's.

 

I really dig Jersey Mikes for subs...and seldom get vinegar on the my subs from there. And I've never tried a sub from Publix. Google tells me that the nearest location to me is in Clarksville, TN...so it doesn't look like I'll be trying one any time soon :lol2:

 

Have you ever tried making your own Cincinnati chili? I live less than a mile away from a Skyline here in Louisville, so we'll still go there sometimes, but my mother-in-law and now my wife pretty regularly make Cincinnati chili from pre-mixed seasoning packets. You can order them from Amazon for cheap, and the chili keeps perfectly in the freezer. My wife will buy like 3 pounds of ground beef and make a big "double batch", separate it out into like 4 or 5 separate containers and toss those in the deep freeze in the basement. The only thing we've learned is that when you make it from the packets, we half the amount of water they tell you to use per packet from 6 cups down to 3 cups.

 

Daddy's is a little family restaurant in Oldmar. Great food. I've never had a bad meal there, have tried almost everything on the menu, and have been eating there for 20 years. My favorite restaurant on the planet.

I used to love Bern's. It is still a good restaurant, but no where near what it was when Bern ran it. You're not paying for good there, you're paying for great. David is just not his father. He has let the little things that meant so much to Bern and Gert, and made it so special, slip away.

 

 

 

 

Beef - hot - cheddar - dipped please. And their fries are awesome.

 

 

 

 

 

B-dubs to me is the most over over rated place on the planet. They are over priced and everything they serve is mediocre at best.

 

It's been 8 or 10 years since my last trip to Bern's. The last time, my steak was not great. It was average at best.

 

Mel's has a decent Italian Beef sandwich, but I will give Portillo's the nod there.

 

I agree with your assessment of B-dubs.

Jimmy John's. Don't get it AT ALL.

This may offend some people, but Malone’s is vastly overrated. Don’t get me wrong it’s still really good, but it can’t hold a candle to any of Ruby’s restaurants or Ruth Chris. When Ruby’s opens in Lexington I don’t think I will ever have a reason to eat at Malone’s again.

One could argue they never had it. Only reason I ever went there was for the onion, the onion sucks now.

 

The one in Naples Florida is horrible.

 

I recently ate at Outback, first time in many years. We went for the Steak and Beer night, I believe that is on Wednesday. The steak was very tough. I noticed a waitress bringing the onion to a next door table. That thing was so much smaller than I remember, it looked like dehydrated.

I’ve eaten at a couple Outbacks somewhat recently, all in airports. Nothing special, but not bad either. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat at one, but I wouldn’t avoid going there either.

I've not had the onion at Texas Roadhouse, but agree on their steaks being better.

If I’m in the mood for steak most of the time I’m grilling one myself (so I know it’s done correctly) or I’m going to one of the upscale steakhouses. Occasionally I’ll eat at a chain steakhouse I.e. Outback, TR, Longhorn but I rarely have had a steak I considered to be really good. Plus anytime you go to a chain place an order a ribeye it’s usually thin so it almost always comes out medium-well at best. So IMO they’re all overrated.

I highly agree on the steaks. You can't find a better steak for the price point that you pay at Texas Roadhouse. I've had steaks that cost more other places that easily were not as good.

 

I disagree somewhat on the onion. I think that the season Outback has in their batter is better than at Texas Roadhouse, however, TR sells their onion for about 60% of what Outback charges so it's a much better value. As is most everything at TR.
