February 5, 20179 yr No, he's not horrible. He was just horrible TONIGHT. He had lots of horrible company. Nah, he's horrible. The most selfish player in the team. People tend to look at the pts after each game and miss the point that he forces up horrible shots at horrible times of the game along with his usual 6 missed layups a game and his 4 traveling calls a game. Can't wait for him to go.
February 5, 20179 yr Something's not right. Can't put my finger on it. Is there a chemistry issue? Is there a caring issue? Help me, someone. Coaching. Hate to say it but Calnis not a great coach. He's an outstanding recruiter but not a good coach. Talent has won him games, not his coaching. His 2014 finals game threw up a huge red flag for me when it comes to his coaching. He lost us that title because of being stubborn and refusing to take out the Harrison twins and sitting Ullis on the bench at the end when we were up. This year I have yet to see him not be out coached in games we should have won. Hate to tell you all but Cal is not a great coach.
February 5, 20179 yr I don't watch a ton of Kentucky games, but the ones I've seen seem to have the same feature: this is a pretty poor defensive team. The easiest thing to overlook about Cal's best teams at UK is how good they were on that side of the ball. For the Kentucky fans: what do you see that is different about this team that they can't seem to get together defensively?
February 5, 20179 yr Briscoe previous 3 games. Tennessee 11 points 14 reb 5 assists. Kansas 12 8 6 Georgia 23 11 8 This thread is about last nights Florida game. Just from memory: Briscoe took one outside jumper , missed it and missed 2 free throws. That's his scoring summary. He drives the lane to the base line, stops and then can't find anyone to pass to. When he does go to the rim, his shot gets blocked and very seldom draws a foul. He also had 4 TO's and no rebounds. Willis took one shot missed it, didn't shoot it again. One rebound. Hawkins took one shot and missed it, didn't shoot again. He's just taking up space. Somebody help me understand how you can score points if you don't take a shot?

Did we watch the same game or do you even look at the box score? :idunno:
February 5, 20179 yr Here and I thought me and PP92's breakdowns were bad earlier in the year. Said with my UK friends, this was supposed to be Duke/UK then everybody else. We both stink.

I didn't look at the box score, I knew it would be ugly. :lol2: Your box score numbers are just about the same as my memory numbers are. So total was 4 of 17? Pathetic, to say the least.
February 5, 20179 yr Little leadership from the older players. Most of the players are physically weak. Most of the players are not tough. Front court is really bad. Since the fast break game has been taken away, the offense is bad. Guards can't guard--get beat--then a pass off or a lay-up...no rim protector.

Maybe Cal has been doing a better job with this team than many are giving him credit for. Could it be possible that this mixture of young talent and older less talented players have always had holes and weaknesses and he's been able to disguise them for most of the season. Winning with mirrors, so to speak. The flaws were exposed to a degree in the UCLA game but not enough to cause worry. Then comes the stretch of 3 out of 4 game losses that really exposed them. And it hasn't helped that there has been the Fox injury, which I'm sure he's still a little gimpy, and the illnesses. Maybe Cal has actually done pretty good with this team. I'm sure he expected more out of some key spots from. For instance, Gabriel has been streaky for the season, an occasional above average game but mostly sub-par, performances, and Jones is another recruit that I'm sure he thought would develop into more than just sitting on the bench next to the walk-ons. Maybe Cal's done a great job in keeping them ranked as high as he has for this long in the season. It fooled the fans and also the national media. But the cat is now out of the bag. Probably a ranking around 17 and a seed in the tourney of a 4 or 5.

Probably a ranking around 17 and a seed in the tourney of a 4 or 5. Cal has not done a good job with this group. He has done a horrible job. How can anyone say he's done a great job? Look, how many games into a season and every day at practice does it take to realize your team is horrible at playing man to man? They are the worst UK team I can ever remember at playing man to man defense yet Cal keeps playing that type of defense. He is a horrible coach if he can't see what a layman like myself who hasn't coached basketball beyond a 4th grade team can figure out. Cal is a great recruiter but after he gets the players in campus he fails BBN in that his sole goal is getting these guys to the NBA as soon as possible. He has even admitted in the past he would rather fulfill his players dreams than win championships. He isn't a very good in game coach period.
February 5, 20179 yr Once again out coached! It is great that you share your insight on coaching ability. You know coaching ability so well from experience. Every year you watch Coach Marksberry get outcoached. You have become an expert at coaching ability. This past year he even got outcoached by Ryle's coach.

I felt like it was pretty strange they were looked at as a two seed as late as yesterday morning. Frankly their schedule has helped them. They're 2-4 against teams anywhere close to being currently ranked and 3-3 in road games with only two of those teams being any good. It took a bailout by Monk to beat a bad Georgia team at home and an out of this world game by Monk to beat UNC. I'm not convinced they are a legitimate title contender, but I have to believe a team of Fox, Monk, Bam and two kids from the Y would be better than a pretty good percentage of college teams.
