It is great that you share your insight on coaching ability. You know coaching ability so well from experience. Every year you watch Coach Marksberry get outcoached. You have become an expert at coaching ability. This past year he even got outcoached by Ryle's coach.

Now you've gone and done it. :lol2:

I don't watch a ton of Kentucky games, but the ones I've seen seem to have the same feature: this is a pretty poor defensive team. The easiest thing to overlook about Cal's best teams at UK is how good they were on that side of the ball.

For the Kentucky fans: what do you see that is different about this team that they can't seem to get together defensively?

They play like an AAU team, not really worried about the little things such as rebounding and defense. They just want to outscore the opponent. They are very timid defensively, like they are afraid of fouling, but in my opinion leads to more fouls being called on them. Ever notice than when a defender makes a clean block up top that the officials will allow a lot of contact with the body, but if the defender is just standing there with his hands up, that same contact will be called a foul.

Maybe their fear of fouling is more a fear of sitting on the bench in foul trouble, because you can't score if you are sitting on the bench.

Now you've gone and done it. :lol2:

:)

He is going to hear about Coach Marksberry's coaching ability every time he posts his nonsense.

Couldn't agree more!!! No way in hell would they play next game. NO WAY IN HELL!

......

Yeah, that made them look bad. National audience and all. Sad to act that way after a stomping loss of that magnitude.
.....

Don't think for a moment that won't be a topic of conversation the next couple or three days, at least.

A reply / comment to all three above ...it sure didn't take long for the commentary to start. I was watching the Gonzaga game later last night and when showing the highlights at the half, one commentator (forgot the name) ran that exact film clip and commented on how that showed one big problem. They were being embarrassed, down by 20 and laughing about it. One comment was that with that it showed not only young, all of Cal's teams are young but it showed how inmature, and there was a big difference ....that they just didn't "get it". I couldn't get upset with the commentator, he was spot on !

This thread is about last nights Florida game.

Just from memory:

Briscoe took one outside jumper , missed it and missed 2 free throws. That's his scoring summary. He drives the lane to the base line, stops and then can't find anyone to pass to. When he does go to the rim, his shot gets blocked and very seldom draws a foul. He also had 4 TO's and no rebounds.

Willis took one shot missed it, didn't shoot it again. One rebound.

Hawkins took one shot and missed it, didn't shoot again. He's just taking up space.

Somebody help me understand how you can score points if you don't take a shot?

Just addressing the Briscoe has been horrible lately nonsense.

The road back for UK needs to focus on two things:

1. Defense of course, including boxing out and defensive rebounding.

2. Making the extra pass to get better shots. More assists in the half court offense.

He needs to spend a lot of time in practice teaching them to play zone because outside Briscoe, none of them can come close

to covering man to man. Especially when they are getting out rebounded

the way they are.

This team has some major issues IMO and I'm not talking about on the court either.

Are there things you've heard, or is this just speculation on your part?

Cal has not done a good job with this group. He has done a horrible job. How can anyone say he's done a great job?

Look, how many games into a season and every day at practice does it take to realize your team is horrible at playing man to man? They are the worst UK team I can ever remember at playing man to man defense yet Cal keeps playing that type of defense. He is a horrible coach if he can't see what a layman like myself who hasn't coached basketball beyond a 4th grade team can figure out.

Cal is a great recruiter but after he gets the players in campus he fails BBN in that his sole goal is getting these guys to the NBA as soon as possible. He has even admitted in the past he would rather fulfill his players dreams than win championships. He isn't a very good in game

coach period.

Those 4 Final Fours and a Championship in the last 7 years has really sucked.

For me anyway, I am not courtside of course to know, hear for sure but it seems by watching that they aren't communicating / talking and / or telling one another when and who pick up when someone gets beat. Another could very well be the laziness, not wanting to put in the work that defense takes, defense and rebounding doesn't require great athletic ability or do those qualities get the glory, press that a dunk, great offensive play does. All that defense and rebounding gets is a win. ;)

There is no reason why Fox and Monk should not be good, even great defenders - especially Fox. With his quickness, he could be a huge defensive asset as a defender.

Another thing on the U.K. game tonight .. I saw D. Fox, M. Monk and I. Briscoe on the bench late in the game tonight .... LAUGHING :madman: :madman: !

That went thru me more than how bad that U.K. played ...were ran out of the gym and Laughing ?? If I am the coach ...those three do not play in the next game, if I lose then I lose with players that care !

I do love the conviction, but they would play. This is not peewee league or your kid. Not playing them and losing, at this point, could be the the difference between a 2 seed anywhere to a 4 seed.

You may put them through hell in practice but you're playing them. You're getting paid millions to win. Period.

On the surface. It's asinine to suggest kids go there for titles. They go to college for the same reason every other student goes to college, which is to become a professional.
