The Cats have no idea how to score against a zone and play horrible defense!! Who's fault is that? Cal made no adjustments and totally got out coached by Bill Self!! Cal is a great recruiter and an average X&O guy.. This team needs to learn how to play some zone on the defensive end. I know Cal hates zone but he needs to get over it!!

As a fan I hope they can get a title but that's not realistic right now, But I do think if they can get it right on D then they could make a run in March. In 2014 UK did make the Final Four with nobody shooting over .800 from the line, and in 2011 with only Darius Miller shooting .800 or better from the line.

Both times you mention they came home without a championship. Thise years UK had the talent that could have won the titles but didn't. Being the bridesmaid is not what I want.

Nothing new here.....just depend on talent alone and nothing else...Cal doesn't do anything but scream and frustrate players when he should be coaching and making changes during the game.....Cal should put the blame on himself and run some half court offense and zone defense and might even want to pressure full court...not that hard but he had rather just put his players in a terrible situation then scream and shout.....rather pathetic in Lexington right now but public can still call him Cal the Great!!!

Anyone else notice this year when D Willis has a good game the Cats lose? Don't know the reason but I thought it was interesting.

 

 

Because Cal only plays those guys and gives them free reign when the draft picks can't get it done.

UK is nothing but a developmental team for next level and not real sure they are getting what they deserve from coaching standpoint......UK just needs to drop out of the collegiate level and play summer hoops with other NBA developmental teams and send Cal with them.....then we could get a real college coach and resume playing real college hoops once again

This is Coach Cal's 8th year at Kentucky. The Cats have been in 4 Final Fours in his first 7 years. Played in 2 championship games, won one championship and have been a legitimate contender for the championship 5 of the 7 years. And yet people say he still can't coach. Give me a break.

 

Still a lot of work to be done and Cal still has over a month to get them ready? Anyone remember the progress the 2013-2014 team made under Cal the last month of the season when the Harrison twins were Freshman? And Monk and Fox are way better. Let's just be patient.

 

Dickie V use to say in the early 2000's you need 2 NBA players to get to the final 4. Well Cal has had like 40, and has gone to 4 final fours, makes sense.

 

Cal will also retire someday with one title by a team who had the best player to ever play at this school.

 

When Cal sticks around long enough Cal gets exposed a little bit. This year for example he got out coached by Pitino and now Self.

Do the Cats actually even have an out of bounds play? They never play zone on the other teams out of bounds plays either. No Offense against the zone. Terrible help and double team Defense too. Monk sure can score , but he can't guard a sole and just will not hit the boards. Hopefully they've hit rock bottom and figure it out soon. Been tough to watch lately. Kansas was the better team last night. Bill Self can flat out coach.

Well the drive back to Ashland sucked tonight. Things looked promising for most of the first half, but in the end the cats just didn't do what they needed to do to get the win. They're still a work in progress though and I didn't decide to drive my car off a cliff on the way home. A few adjustments on defense and getting kids to box out better and this team could be a great one.

 

On the bright side of things, I did get to meet Mark Stoops at halftime along with a handful of recruits. Got a picture of my stepdad with "the dancing guy" outside of Yesterday's, for some reason my stepdad loves that dude hah. Oh, and I ran into Danny Ferry on my way out of the pisser at halftime. I would have shook his hand but I had just washed my hands.

I got to meet him too. It was pretty cool to see the recruits there but Jedrick Willis was there on an official visit even though he is 100% committed to Bama. Great way to get good seats to the game. Haha

I guess we can say Cal has out coached Pitino the majority of his career then. Especially since Cal has been at UK? Pitino even lost to Cal in the tournament when Pitino had his defending National Champ squad back and UK having an injury to WCS.

 

Using Pitino as an example is poor considering how much Cal usually wins against him. As for Self apparently UK fans would hate Self. People are complaining about 1 title during Cals years so far. While Self has been at Kansas longer, has had a some players who stay longer like people say they want, yet I believe he has had only 1 title during his tenure at Kansas.

 

Pitino has had 3 or 4 year guys and KY guys on his roster and has been at UL longer and only has 1 title at UL. So basically we have 2 coaches at big programs who do all the things that people who complain wish Cal would do. Yet they only have one title at their schools and they have been there longer. So seems to me that these things people who Cal and UK would do doesn't guarantee anything when it comes to more titles. We can just look at Kansas and UL and their great coaches as an example of that.

For the UK fans that are not happy with Cal, who would you rather have? I am not a UK fan and find it laughable the criticism that Cal gets...

UK has never run an out of bound play under Cal. Don't know why you don't look to score off of that if you're him?

 

UK won't play zone. No clue why.

 

Usually under Cal we've seen good defenses. This year is an exception. Fox has the tools and can make some defensive plays at half court and in the press, but he really struggles inside the 3 point line. I'm not an expert but to me it seems like he doesn't get in a good defensive stance. Seems to stand up rather than be in an athletic position.

 

Rim protection is non existent. I don't think the style of basketball Cal likes can win big without it. Willis and Hump are Non-factors at the rim and Bam and Gabriel don't have the feel for it.

 

Someone said on here UK misses Marcus Lee and I agree. He'd have made some money on this team.
