Out in the country on the front porch swing during sunset with a cold one.

A cup of coffee while sitting on my front porch. My son and I talking about basketball. My husband giving me a hug.

Asking my daughter, "When did you decide to stop going to the gym?"

Sitting on the back porch with three fingers of Double Oak, a Long Ash Corona, and talking with a friend on Saturday night.

Getting my car washed.

I lost the pocket knife I'd carried for 10+ years like a month or so after I posted this, and didn't bother replacing it for some reason or another. Just got a new one a couple of weeks ago...and the 3 or 4 occasions I've had to pull it out and use it for some small task have been SPECTACULARLY satisfying.

Having my grandson take a nap on my chest is about the greatest simple pleasure I can think of.

Sleeping in on Saturday morning.

Watching the seasons change.

I heard geese honking earlier this afternoon. I slipped out my North facing back door and saw a skein of them. 

I moved away from a metro area of over six million people last year where the change of seasons was barely perceptible. I'm back in the small town I was born in. Around me is rich farmland. There are acres and acres of soybean and corn fields. One can see for miles with clear horizons side to side.

Just to the north are dozens of small lakes filled with tasty bluegill. When I visited here in the summers of my youth, my bath was jumping off the summer cabin dock with a bar of Ivory soap. 

The local meeting place is the hardware store, owned by the same family for over 70 years. I'm surrounded by regular, everyday folks and dozens of family members. 

The geese are honking, and their arrival at the lake region in February may be a sign of an early spring. The bulbs are sprouting. The seasons change.

The sun has set and it's quiet now.  

I am home. ☺️
