October 2, 201610 yr I don't understand how a team the caliber of UofL can't secure a quality kicker. No disrespect to the kids intended. Just surprising.
October 2, 201610 yr Which is why I said it made a difference. I'm simply not overstating its value. For all the talk of Death Valley and for all the glorious impacts Death Valley had UL was one yard of awareness away from making Death Valley a moot point. I think you're way overstating a home field advantage. They'd never lose a game if it mattered that much. A top-level home environment will impact the game and that makes a difference in a close game like this one.
October 2, 201610 yr I am the happiest person I know, so once again you are wrong. But you are very consistent. It seems logging into a few likes back me up on this one. And they aren't just coming from UL fans.

October 2, 201610 yr Undefeated Washington or 1 loss Louisville? This is why we need an 8 team playoff. No more no less. The problem also facing Louisville now is you are going to have a top football school possibly in either Ohio State or Michigan who will at least end up with one lost. So then it would come down to if a one lost team makes it, would the committee put a team like Louisville in over a football tradition school like Ohio State or Michigan who would also has bigger fan bases.
October 2, 201610 yr ^^^^ Then #9 would be complaining and then argue for 16 team playoff. Then #17 complains and we are back to square 1

October 2, 201610 yr Better to lose now than later in year. I agree, Cards aren't all the way out yet, lots of football still to be played. Quite a bit has to go their way though.
October 2, 201610 yr ^^^^ Then #9 would be complaining and then argue for 16 team playoff. Then #17 complains and we are back to square 1 Nope. Right now a team in a major conference can in reality go undefeated and be left out. So teams in an 8 team playoff would have very little argument if they don't make it. Because it becomes simple you win your conference then you know you are in. Right now there is no guarantees you make it even if you win your conference. So for the 2 at large spots, if you don't get those. Then it's easy to say well if you won your conference you wouldn't have to rely on committees opinion for an at large spot.
October 2, 201610 yr I don't understand how a team the caliber of UofL can't secure a quality kicker. No disrespect to the kids intended. Just surprising. Had a really good one the last few years in John Wallace. These two guys are a redshirt freshman and a sophomore. It's such a mental position that I think it's tough to pin down recruiting on a kicker. Petrino is still basically building special teams from the ground up. If you've spend any time watching Texas this year, its become as obvious to those folks as it was to us in Louisville just how little Charlie Strong cares about special teams. The punter, on the other hand, was a big part of the reason Louisville wasn't down by 35 at the half.

And they aren't just coming from UL fans.If you think you know someone, you have never been around in the real by things they post on a college sports form, then I am not going to argue with you, because that in itself is all I need to know about you.
October 2, 201610 yr Got home a couple hours ago, finally settled back in. I'm not going to read the whole thread because I can only imagine the foolishness, plus I've already been tipped off to it, so why bother. First, hats off to the Clemson faithful. I had heard for two years how awesome a group they were and they did not disappoint. I had dozens of interactions with them before, during, and after the game and literally every one of them was positive, inviting, complimentary and welcoming. They are PROFESSIONALS at tailgating, easily the best I've seen in my trips around the country for CFB, and they are the definition of southern hospitality. The atmosphere in the stadium was awesome! They definitely drag out that entrance, but it was cool to be able see it in person, I like being able to experience those traditions at other schools. Place was VERY loud at times, but they manufacture a lot of noise, which is smart on their part. To the game... There are many excuses that could be made after watching it on DVR, but the bottom line is Louisville made too many mistakes on the road at a Top 5 opponent to win the game. The 2nd Quarter killed them. Nine penalties for 100 yards, three turnovers and gave up 28 points all in one quarter. Clemson got in a rhythm offensively and had Louisville's offense on it's heels. Clemson made the plays they had to in the 2nd quarter and that was the difference. I told my buddy at the half that we were going to find out what kind of team we really had, and man I couldn't be more proud of how they responded to the adversity of the 1st Half. They could have easily folded and gotten blown out but they didn't. They fought back, took the lead, and honestly should have won the game. But Clemson is Top 5 for a reason, and they made the plays they had to to secure the victory. Losing sucks, but overall I can't be too upset about this loss. The Cards will win out and be looking for some help, but they still have a shot at the Playoffs. Will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. Thanks to my homies @LRCW and @MentschTrachtGottLact for checking on me after the game, @PurplePride92 for keeping me level headed during the game, and @gametime for the plug on the breakfast spot this morning. Love you guys.
October 3, 201610 yr 50/50 call in real time. UL wins if Quick fights for one more yard. Anybody got a link for this play? It happened so fast . I was waiting for James to make a move and it didn't happen. How many times over the years that James would stop on a dime and let the defender fly on by and go in for the score. I also felt the QB could have thrown the ball a little sooner to give James a better shot at making his move, then wouldn't be so close to the side line. I think there was less than 20 seconds on the clock being 4th down and 15 with a chance to get a 1st down on the 1 and a half yard line. Who knows what James was thinking. Maybe he thought he had the first down where he caught it, and needed to get out of bounds to stop the clock. If he did have the 1st down, and stayed in bounds there would have been about 10 seconds left at that point. Is that enough time to get the O lined up for the next play. I don't think so. To put this loss on James Quick is COMPLETELY UNFAIR. Every player for L played their hearts out. It was a TEAM effort and a TEAM loss. They came up 2 yards short but man I'm proud of them!!!
