memyselfandi
Had no idea. None around me, that's for sure. UC - Florence NovaCare - Florence, Crestview, Highland Heights
Jim Schue
Local schools in Nelson and Hardin counties contract through KORT for their trainer needs. Not sure how it's paid for, but I know in Nelson that all four schools — Bardstown, Thomas Nelson, Bethlehem, NCHS — have a dedicated person for their school. As far as AED devices, I've never really investigated it here.
Bert
I will take your word for it. I was told by an ATC that it was done at no cost. That used to be true but when reimbursements were cut however many years back, places like Kort had to start charging because the returns were no longer enough to fully subsidize trainers. memyselfandi
I'm not well-versed in the healthcare world. Are there specialists that are not associated with a hospital? If a kid has a knee injury can he go to a doctor in NKY that is not tied to St E? Even if that's a no it's still smart business by St E. It's really easy to send your child to Cincinnati. To answer your first question in NKY there is UC Health (Ortho), Commonwealth (St. E), Beacon & Cincinnati Sports Med (now Wellington I think which is Mercy) To your 2nd comment, it is very easy to get to Cincinnati but a lot of people do not like to cross the mighty Ohio River. I will also say I believe it is a huge liability not to have an athletic trainer at your school. To me even if you have to pay for one they save your schools a lot of money due to the fact they can evaluate & treat injuries and take care of injury prevention. AEDs should be at all competitions no matter what.

In NKY most coverage is free. So Clyde is right if he is talking NKY. I know Lexington schools pay UK money for athletic training services. I am not sure where you are located but I would say the majority of schools in Kentucky pay for athletic training services.
oldgrappler
The have AEDs at every McDonald's now, def should be in all schools. I know my kids would definitely be for having a McDonald's in their school. Having an AED at that McDonald's is a bonus.
NKY-Sub
I know in talking with our trainer last year their rule of them is to be at the event that has the highest risks. So if its just practices they will often be at football practices but games trump practices at all times. Having one AT per school is most common but when you think about it thats still a big risk but as with everything money talks.
