Things are wild at Colorado. Down to 20 scholarship players. Guys that transferred in to CU have already transferred out, including one player that followed Deion from Jackson State.

Deion is either going to be Coach of the Year in two years, or looking for another job IMO. This has disaster written all over it.

A few thoughts...

  • Deion's beginnings at Jackson State were iffy. Seemed like a lot of drama (remember his wallet allegedly being stolen from the locker room during the first game?). But the next two years were full of success and nothing of note off the field.
  • Deion told the players in the broadcast first meeting that most of them should expect to transfer. This seems like part of the plan.
  • Those same players people are lamenting leaving were 1-11 and perhaps the worst power-5 team in football last year. Are those the guys expected to make a change in the program?

While the turnover has been drastic, I'm not prepared to write off Deion quite so soon. It will be a fascinating story to watch this summer, though.

Agreed. Deion pretty much said this was going to happen and a team that has been as bad as Colorado has been of late, probably isn't losing much. This year was likely going to be a rough ride even if most of those guys had stayed, so losing them now open things up for Deion to start building a roster with his guys. I know a lot of people like Deion's "old school" approach, but I'm not sure how well it's going to play at the highest level of college football. His whole act seems somewhat contrived and not genuine, and if that's the case, kids will pick up on that real quick. I can see him having some success early (not necessarily this year), but it all falling apart pretty quickly in a few years once players tire of his schtick.

Players that were there when Deion got there that have left, that is no surprise. That is no different than any other coaching change.

The concern, IMO, are the guys who have transferred in AFTER Deion got hired and that have already re-entered the portal. That is not a good look any way you slice it.

I honestly don't expect Deion to be at Colorado very long. I'm thinking three years max.

Deion is a polarizing personality.   I, for one, will withhold judgement until I see the Buffs on the field.

I'd say 3 years in Boulder is about right.   He's either going to flame out and be back coaching High School, or he'll be wildly successful and be Mike McCarthy's replacement in Dallas, since Jerry loves him some publicity.

I believe he put together a good staff correct? They will do the bulk of the coaching of players. He's the front man. The media loves him. Head coaches coach coaches. We'll see how he does.

I could see it going either way with Deion's length of stay.  I also wonder if his declining health will play a factor, whether or not it's the real reason, if he were to leave relatively quickly.

I could definitely see some guys transferring in, expecting "Prime Time" and getting a coach that wants to build back a program and not take a lot of flack or babysit while doing so.

All signs pointing to Colorado heading back to the Big 12.

Finances aside, it makes more sense for Colorado to return to the Big 12.  They've been a fish out of water in the PAC-12, just like how Missouri has felt that way in the SEC or Nebraska in the Big 10.

Most of the national pundits believe Colorado will announce their intentions to leave the Pac12 and Arizona will do the same shortly after. Their media rights talks have been a disaster and no where close to what they were were hoping to get.

Just those two? I’ve also heard rumor of Arizona State and Utah but don’t know how serious that is.

I don't think Arizona State and Utah are legit options.

I personally think they add Colorado/Arizona then UConn and Gonzaga as hoops only members.

U Conn? Why would U Conn make that move?
