My future son-in-law spent many weeks chipping in the yard before we moved him to the driving range. He has learned the game from the green back. Three seasons in and he is shooting mid 80s regularly. Next step is to eliminate silly mistakes and he'll break 80.

Many companies are making decent clubs these days, my only suggestion is make sure you have a well made and well balanced putter. This is the club that you'll use the most. You can shave many strokes off your score with good chipping and putting.

Crazy enough I love my old putter but I look forward to breaking in my new one. Gonna carry my old putter for good measure though.

Putting is ALL about feel, so you have to have something in your hands that feels good. I can pick up 10 putters, and know almost immediately the one(s) I putt well with and the ones I won't. Don't spend too much time trying to break in a new putter that doesn't "feel" good in your hands.

So, @PurplePride92, now that you have been bitten by the golf bug, when you going to come down to Wild Turkey Trace and let me treat you to a round?

It may be awhile. Maybe some time in August or early September when our golf league is finished.

The 81st Annual Chippeways Invitational at Maysville Country Club is this weekend -- my 16th straight year in the field. My favorite weekend of the year, a great time, everyone taking everything too seriously, but all in the spirit of the event and having a great time. I am, as is usually the case, way over-seeded, but I'll take my two losses tomorrow and Saturday and then enjoy the sunshine on Sunday following other matches. If you're in the Maysville area (@mcpapa), hope to run into you at Camino Real, deSha's, or Bob Evans this weekend!!! Or, of course, at MCC around the bar or the putting green!!

First eagle of the season on Monday (although the rest of the round was pretty sad). Woo-hoo!

Long story short...ordered new 3 wood, came in a couple weeks ago. I play it, like it and hit it pretty darn well but something doesn't quite feel right. Last week I look a little closer after swinging it, shaft is stiff instead of the regular flex that I ordered. I contact the website I purchased it from, they won't exchange it since I had used it, but offer me a $25.00 gift certificate to use. I probably should have argued for more since this is the 2nd time in 2 months they sent me the wrong club (last one they exchanged since I had not used it...since it was left handed it was impossible for me to do so), but I took it since they were having a 70% off sale this past weekend. Got 2 dozen balls I like and can't find around here anywhere, and a new wedge, been wanting to get something else for a while now. With shipping, everything cost me $20.00, and I like the 3 wood just fine. I think I came out ahead on that deal.

Well, how'd it go? Hopefully you performed better than I did in Cynthiana. 72-79 for me for a last place finish in my flight.

In Myrtle Beach this week. Played today at Grande Dunes Resort course. Very nice layout with some holes along the Intercostal Waterway. Extremely long. Back tees were over 7500. I played the 1 ups and it was still right at 7100. Shot 79 with a ball OB and one in the hazard.

Playing the Love course at Barefoot Landing Wednesday.

Shot 78 on Friday and lost to a dude who was 3 over through 17. Won Saturday (great match, was 2 down through 11, 1 up with 3 to go, and ultimately won it on 18 with an up and down par), Won Sunday AM, and lost Sunday PM.

I'm playing for the first time on Saturday the 16th with some of my BGP brethren. Hoping to overcome my shoulder issue. Gonna eat some ibuprofen and suck it up. Ha

Shot an 80 with an 8 on Saturday. (GlenView, Cincy)

Crazy streak right now, have birdied the #1 handicap hole the last 3 times playing on 3 different courses. (Scores - 95, 82, 80)

Two week until my annual Father/Son Team Classic in Myrtle Beach. This will be the 3rd year, 2nd time with my eldest. Should be a BLAST.

Have only played twice this year but they were both scrambles so I don’t have any individual scores but I feel I’ve hit the ball decently well. My driver came around about halfway through my first outing of the year and stayed that way through the second outing. Have hit some good second shots and a few cruddy ones but that’s about normal for me. Surprisingly (for me) I am putted the ball extremely well, including a 40 footer, this year. That will probably change next weekend now that I’ve mentioned it.

Had complete opposite 9's Saturday at Wooded View gc in Jeffersonville, IN Saturday. First trip there, started on the back 9...shot a disgusting 52, had 3-4 just horrible shots, 2 that were drives that lead to two 8's, also had another bad hole with a 7. Got to the front, and shot my lowest 9 hole score ever with a 37. Not an ant hills worth of difference between the two 9's in difficulty, just the difference in me not hitting 3-4 horrible shots that I couldn't recover from.
