Unless every hole is downhill, 6,900 is a mite out of my range.
June 8, 201610 yr Got in 18 today at Indian Creek GC (formally Mt. Sterling CC). 76 (38/38) from the blue tees (6300ish yards, par 71). 3 birdies, all on the front. Putted terribly. 31 putts on only 10 greens in regulation. The good news is, I beat my 7 year old. It was by default though. We we got to the 4th green, he saw his mom, his little brother and a handful of his buddies at the swimming pool.
June 8, 201610 yr Blues will do me. Unless every hole is downhill, 6,900 is a mite out of my range. 6900 is out of my range too. So is 6400. I play our 6100 yard tees, but at 62 years of age I may be moving forward in the not too distant future. But as of now I can still drive it long enough to handle the 6100 tees.
June 8, 201610 yr I just invested $2000 in a complete set of Ping irons and woods. Went to Brad at Man O War in Lexington and after 2 hours of swinging irons and woods he had me fitted with the clubs he said would best suit my swing. Brad called in the order and I'm still waiting on the shipment. Should be here in the next few days. One thing he told me was I needed graphite shafts. He said as one gets older the graphite shafts are easier on the wrists, they absorb the impact of striking the ball better than steel shafts.

June 8, 201610 yr So I am in the golf league at work now. I've played 3 times and been in a scramble so far. I've played 9 holes each time and have shot 66,62 and 62. I've made two pars so far and I am loving it. Playing again tomorrow and I have played at Brightleaf every time. My clubs are some old hand-me downs and I am satisfied with my driver and my 3 wood and 5 wood. Everyone keeps telling me to get some irons that are cavity backs. I'm looking for a set of irons that are cavity backs for around 200 bucks. Can anyone point me in the right direction of irons that I should get?

First, if you want to do it right, go to a shop and get measured for clubs. Secondly, I just had me some made from this place Home page - Hireko Custom Golf Clubs and Components I love them, whole iron set cost me $240.00, but that included my pro shop guy assembling them for me. Swing/hit as good as most and even better than some brand name irons costing a LOT more. If you want I can recommend what to get and put you a good little set together. Mine cost a tad more because I have to get the heads bent to fit me, and that adds about $4.50 a club. I can build you a set on line, just assuming standard length and lie, and see what a set would run you.
June 8, 201610 yr Author By the way, Hireko Golf is a component head maker, meaning they make their own heads and designs and some of their own shafts too. However, as far as shafts and grips go you can get ANYTHING out there through them as well...$4.00 shafts all the way up to $500-600.00 shafts (which I don't think you would be in the market for haha).

I just want to know a decent set of irons I can order with my recognition money from work. Golfsmith and Sports Authority are the two stores available to me and they both have so many iron sets. Are all irons cavity back and do I need Nike, Titletist, Taylor Made, McGregor? I'm a hacker. I need to figure out what I am doing before I go custom made. Any set of irons is better than what I have right now. :lol2:
June 8, 201610 yr Local golf clubs and stores usually have cheap used sets that will fit your need. Did you check with the pro at Brightleaf? They usually will work with you.

I purchased a used set of very nice, newer irons from Golf Exchange in NKY. Go to one of the local shops that sells new & used clubs. You can actually swing/hit the clubs for 15+ minutes before buying them. I bought a lightly used set and am pretty happy with it. You can also look online at Global Golf Exchange and a couple other websites. Also, I'd recommend buying some used golf balls on Amazon or lostgolfballs.com. I just bought 40 of them online for pretty cheap, and they're in pretty good condition. They're used, but the companies that re-sell the balls grade them. Serves golfers like us well.

Unfortunately, what I bolded above, you won't find anything brand new at the price you are looking...might be hard pressed to find them used for $200. I am going to another gold go-to site I use, Rockbottomgolf and see what they have on sale.
