Just got back from a Hilton Head golf course. The courses and the weather was outstanding. It's a shame I wasn't.

I threw out some big numbers but still hit a few skins and greenies so did come out on the plus side of the gaming.

Played after work yesterday afternoon. Weather was, dare I say...PERFECT! Low 70's, light breeze blowing. Course is still soaking wet and fairways are basically mud with the Bermuda still dormant, but the weather was so nice could work around that. Hit some really nice shots, but didn't lead to a very good score. But more concerned right now with just hitting the ball solidly, which I did for the most part yesterday.

Got back last night from Vegas. Had a GREAT time. Played TPC Summerlin where the pros play each fall. Great course! Also played Revere, Red Rock Arroyo and Siena. I recommend them all. Three of the four days were perfect weather. The third day was the most wind I have ever experienced on a golf course. Wind advisory - just brutal - had scheduled to play 36 that day but we all looked at each other after 18 and said that was enough. Actually made a few bucks playing 3 card poker and did OK betting games - pretty much broke even. Xavier KILLED me on a 3 game parlay I had. I won the first two and needed X to beat Wisconsin by 5 or more to win $350...boy, did they lay an egg!

We use to play 36 per day for a week at Myrtle Beach but in recent years that has been cut down to 18 per day except for one 27 hole day. As one gets older those 36 hole days are just too much for the old bones and muscles.

After many rounds of golf over the last 50 years, this morning I had my first ever HOLE IN ONE. Hole #5 at California Golf Course. 110 yards , used an 8 iron.

Played at Longview in Georgetown Easter Sunday. had a just horribly pathetic 48 on the front 9...quite a bit better 40 on the back with 5 pars and a birdie. Bogied the last 2 holes, missing 2...not gimmes by any stretch but definitely makeable par putts. front side first few holes I just swung my clubs terribly, especially first 4-5 holes, "chili dipped" 5-6 chips/short shots. Would have benefited from a small warm up bucket at the range, which I usually do when playing 18 but didn't take the time to Sunday.

Played the Mill Course in Cincy this past weekend. Had one of the most dreaded scores . . . 80. 40 on the front, 40 on the back. Took bogey on the fairly easy par-5 18th. 3-putt from 40 feet. Ouch. 79 sounds so much better. Oh well, happy with way I was hitting the ball, didnt make any putts though.

I updated my golf bag a little yesterday. I purchased a new driver. Tried out a TaylorMade M1 and M2, a Titleist D3, some type of Ping and a Calloway Great Big Bertha.

Ended up buying the Calloway. Club head speed and ball speed with higher with it than the others and I actually kept it in the grid on the Trackman! It has a 65 gram Speedster stiff shaft. I truly believe the shaft is the key to drivers because they are all basically constructed the same way now.

Made my purchase at the Golf Exchange in Lexington through my longtime friend and high school teammate, Bart. Give him a visit sometime and tell him jahearme sent you.

Only got 5 holes in before church last night. Back to back par and birdie on #7, longish uphill par 4, and #8, short par 3 over water. Going directly after work today, get at least a full 9 holes in. Going to stat turning in scores for handicap. I think I should be able to play to the 14 I had a couple of years ago before I quit turning scores in because my hip had gotten so bad, but would like to get that down to a 12 at least and finally break 80 this summer. Breaking 80 I believe is in the cards, getting down to a 12..unless I start shaping up off the tee, especially with the driver, not sure a 12 is feasible.

Looks like I'll get to tee it up this weekend at least once! Traveling to western KY to visit the in-laws and my father-in-law wants to play. He belongs to Princeton CC. Fun course.

League starts on Monday! Got to find where I stored my clubs :)

Beautiful evening yesterday...low 70's, about a 6-8 mph breeze...perfect golf weather. Walked 9 holes, shot a 42 from the tips...not bad, but not great either, especially since I continue to struggle with my driver and cannot par the easiest hole on the course; the #6 straight away 480 yard par 5. It's absolutely inexcusable to get anything more than par here, and I took a 6 last night and a 7 the night before. Now, it does have a very very tough "turtle back" green and a 3 putt is easy to do if you are not in good position on the green, and especially tough if its just been freshly mowed. But my problem is I just don't get ON the green in regulation, hardly ever. And it's just so darn frustrating.:irked:

Might knock off early today. Guys at work taking me out for an early 50th birthday celebration. Might get on Golfnow and find a cheap tee time. Definitely playing tomorrow as well. Probably Sunday to, but might stay at the old home course for that one.

Got 27 holes in today at Princeton CC. My body is going to be mad at me in the morning.

Even par on the day. 75 on first 18 and then 34 (front side is par 37) on the other nine. Stuggled off the tee with the new driver for about 8 holes then I started hitting it really well. I hit a lot of greens in regulation today, but only made 6 birdies.

Golf course itself was okay. It still amazes me how much faster it gets green in the western part of the state compared to the bluegrass.

Absolutely gorgeous day to be out there!

Anyone tried out any of the mini drivers ? It's basically a 12 degree driver with a shorter shaft.
