I agree, I've said the same thing.

 

Last year was a pro team, with a lot of NBA guys. This team is a good college team with some NBA guys. I feel like this years team is more suited to the college game and has a better mix of what's needed to win it all at this level. Great guard play with tall, long, athletic bigs. Last year they had NBA quality players and a great team but the style of play was more professional ball than college ball.

 

A big What If: replace last year's Harrison's with Murray and Briscoe and last year's team would have 100% been unbeatable (and almost was anyway). I mean, no one would have even given them a close game---not Ole Miss, not Texas A&M, not Notre Dame, not Wisconsin. Nor Duke.

 

I've read some articles this morning from different national sources talking about last night's game and they were bragging up UK's guards big time, and Ulis in particular. And a couple of them added Cal's stubbornness and loyalty to the twins last year cost him and his team the national title. That Ulis and Booker should have been in the game down the stretch. And I agree.

Ulis is the real deal.

One sentiment that I'm reading and hearing on KSR that is a little annoying:

You think Duke did? Duke didn't even play close to their best game. I think we are definitely a head better than Duke and they didn't play well last night but I don't think we are head and shoulders better, especially come March. Coach K will get smart with Thorton and they will be much tougher.

That style of ball last year led them to a final four and only one loss all season. I am really excited about this years team after what I saw last night and they will be fun to watch. However I think people forget how freaking good last years team really was, and how fun it was to watch last years team. Maybe the idea of going 40 and 0 made people more nervous during games, and didn't enjoy it as much. However last years group was very fun to watch because they could do it all. They could play defense, rebound, go inside, drive the lane, shoot the ball, hit free throws. Not to mention anytime there was a play to be made at the end of the game they stepped up and made it. Well except for that dang final four game.

 

I know people live in the moment, but this year has to play out a lot more for me to say I will like this team better lol.

I have gotten this sentiment from many that this "team is more suited to the college game." I am not sure what that means, but last year UK won their first 38 games. In college.

This team seems much more fluid and moves the ball much better than last year's. There are a lot of games to go, with a lot of ups and downs for these freshmen, physically and mentally. Let's hope this wasn't their best effort and the team improves a great deal. Let's compare this team and last year's in March, 2016 and then determine who's better.

Last years team was better, I can answer that now. However can this team finish the deal yes they can. The NCAA tournament is tough because all it takes is one bad game and you are out. So this year's team could finish the deal, but still wouldn't mean this years team is better. They are sure going to be fun to watch though, and I hope they can finish the deal this year.

When firing on all cylinders it was a tour de force last year. That team wins last night's game by 25. And that is not a slight against Duke, just highlighting how overpowering they could be. They beat Kansas in this same moment 72-40.

Kentucky is much better than I thought. Ulis was the X factor. He plays like that all year and they'll just get better and better. It seemed like the game meant more to KY than Duke. Coaching wasn't a factor either way. Superior athletes basically playing 5 on 5 street ball. I predict these teams will meet later in March.
