Every year they graduate amazing players and have just as good if not better to step up and fill their rolls the following season is that not the case now OR was Dale just a football god of coaching his players even more so than everyone already thought?

I will try this one last time so hopefully everyone can gain a better understanding. A big reason that these schedules were put together was Highlands desire to get away from playing games 2, 3 or 4 hours away like Paducah Tilghman, John Hardin and Warren Central that I can think of off the top of my head. A change in coaches and a change in philosophy. This is the first year that the previous staff and administration did not make the schedule.

 

Secondly, it is well known by anyone in the Northern Kentucky Football community that Dale Mueller was not very well liked by his coaching brethren in the area for various reasons, many of which have been discussed on these very airwaves.

 

So it was kind of a mutual thing between all of the schools in the Northern Kentucky area. This year it worked out well for those area schools and next year who knows.

 

I would certainly expect that Highlands will keep this primarily Northern Kentucky schedule for as long as Brian Weinrich is in charge of the program with an occasional out of town game mixed in, like Scott County was this year.

 

What has to be considered in many school situations is the cost of transportation, most of which had to be paid for at Highlands via fundraising by each and every team. The school board has since tried to address this situation in attempts to eliminate the need for fundraisers to simply pay for transportation costs of team to play games outside of the Boone, Kenton and Campbell County areas.

Over the last 8 to 10 years, what do you think was the biggest factor in them being able to win as consistently as they did? Think of the statement being able to stand on the shoulders of those who came before them and that will give you a little insight I think.

Scheduling schools 3-4 hours away every year gets old. What's the definition of insanity?

If you were a coach in NKY and you had any brains you knew this was the year to schedule Highlands. Period.

 

This takes nothing away from the talent that Cooper, SK and Ryle have on their team but it has been a known fact for a few years that this would be a year and possibly next year.

So when someone as close to the team as you doesn't even know that they would be down this bad now says looking back that everyone else should have known makes it seem a little absurd.

Usually coaches are more concerned about what they have on their team and what they will do with the talent returning than being concerned what a team across town that isn't even in their district is going to be like.

I agree with this...We have no way of knowing whether it was the motivator to schedule HHS or not. But there is no doubt that opposing coaches knew what was coming in the other schools. I coach a high school sport and I can tell you what every one of the teams in my area have coming in the near future. In fact, I try to schedule the teams that I know are going to be strong and tend to lean towards not scheduling the ones that will be down. Sometimes that "conference" thingy in my sport gets in the way of that, but I can tell you with pretty much certainty which schools will be up and down over the next 3-4 years.

 

Fill me in with how they would know, or why they would even care what a team is going to be like that isn't not only in their class but not even in their district. Again, you being a coach of a sport at Highlands, you didn't even know how bad Highlands would be. You along with some other Highlands fans who all of a sudden are claiming all coaches know what other teams will be like heading into a season is simply ridiculous. How and Why would any other coach care what highlands was going to be like this year? You also predicted a big Highlands win against Cooper and you are much closer to the program than any coach of any other team in NKY. You didn't know and now you are claiming everyone knew? Wow.

So had a chance to watch some film last night with other father's and I have to say some of it is comical. There's really no rhyme or reason why we are 1-6. I read the Ft.Thomas matters article and in that they are using every excuse they can on why the team is losing. So we decided a couple of us would get together and watch some film. The first thing that sticks out is you bring players in and have them make a play or 2 then remove them, Second playing boy's like this does nothing hence the reason why we could be losing? Several player's stuck out while watching the films and they are 33,54,55,41,74,52,12,59,35,5,10,44,8,24,27,and 98 which is a beast. and I wonder why some are playing JV when they are obviously great players. We do not need these boy's on JV however they could be a huge asset on Varsity if used from what we have seen so why are they not being used at all or little at best? That would be the question I would be asking anyone who is in the know with this Varsity program?

I suspect it is a bit of both. However, with Dale at the helm of this year's team I really believe we would have the same results. Also, remember that overall so far this has been an upgrade over any previous non district schedule I can remember. There might not be an Elder or Cincy St. X but the teams beating HHS are very good teams. I expect most of them will be making a bit of noise I the 6A playoffs.

Losing a legendary coach hurts, losing elite talent hurts just as much. It was the perfect time for the stock to crash.

In my opinion, Dale was a great motivator and coach kids "up" better than most. I do think that is one thing that went with Dale when he left. I'm not saying thats a weakness of the current staff, just saying I feel like that was a strength of Dale. He could convince you that you could play with anyone that you WILL compete with anyone. So whether he had great talent or mediocre talent, they still had a chance!

 

Now time will tell whether or not this is a strength of the new regime. It's hard to tell with just one class. Is a coach not being able to motivate kids? Is it the class that has internal issues anyway? Is it just a class that no matter what you say, they are just cavalier. And I am by no means talking about individuals. I'm talking about a class. I have no idea, but I know it's probably too early to "tag" anyone or any system with something as we look for answers. We all know every class is different and sometimes the program takes on the demeanor of the senior class...especially when you have 30-35 seniors each year.

 

You have heard many that are close to the program suggest this group look in the mirror and control your own destiny. I think with that advice, you can think for yourself and get some hints what part of the problem may be with this group.

 

As I've said before, HHS has had very successful years in the past when the talent wasn't great, they were small or had a very tough schedule...and sometimes all three. I think the difference that I've seen this year is internal.

 

I will say it again...they have the ability to turn it around. But no one can do it for them at this point. They need to decide as a group what legacy they want to leave behind. If you turn it around and make a late run, all this crap talk and blame goes away. If you don't do anything about it...well then your legacy lives with you the rest of your life when you're a Bluebird.

I hear you, but this thread is one of the most interesting ones on BGP in a while. The best part is uk#1fan has sat back and just observed. That let this thread take a very interesting turn. We all know what it would have turned into if he had started posting here. Thanks for staying out of this one uk#1fan!
