Huh? You can go back almost two years ago and research. I was one of the first HHS fans (along with Raiderbird) to tell you that this year, the talent depth would be down. I had no idea how it would effect them, but many of us knew that and said it right here on BGP...several times. We took a lot of slack over it!!!

A big reason that these schedules were put together was Highlands desire to get away from playing games 2, 3 or 4 hours away like Paducah Tilghman, John Hardin and Warren Central that I can think of off the top of my head. A change in coaches and a change in philosophy. This is the first year that the previous staff and administration did not make the schedule.

 

Secondly, it is well known by anyone in the Northern Kentucky Football community that Dale Mueller was not very well liked by his coaching brethren in the area for various reasons, many of which have been discussed on these very airwaves.

 

So it was kind of a mutual thing between all of the schools in the Northern Kentucky area. This year it worked out well for those area schools and next year who knows.

 

I would certainly expect that Highlands will keep this primarily Northern Kentucky schedule for as long as Brian Weinrich is in charge of the program with an occasional out of town game mixed in, like Scott County was this year.

 

What has to be considered in many school situations is the cost of transportation, most of which had to be paid for at Highlands via fundraising by each and every team. The school board has since tried to address this situation in attempts to eliminate the need for fundraisers to simply pay for transportation costs of team to play games outside of the Boone, Kenton and Campbell County areas.

 

Oh no you don't, for years, Mueller wanted for Highlands to be a top 25 NATIONAL Team, so they played teams from Florida, Penn. Ohio, etc. now that Highlands is down it want's to play the card of travel distance? That's embarrassing to each poster on these boards. The bottom line is, Mueller retired because he knew he had nothing coming up or in the pipe line, and wanted to go out on top. Again this ain't rocket science.

I think others have answered your question as to how teams knew Highlands would be down. I am not as close to the system anymore as others so I can't give you the response you want.

Actually i haven't seen any answer to the question of how coaches would know Highlands would be down this year.

 

Answer me these couple of questions.

 

Did Highlands win the State Title last year?

 

Has Highlands historically, at least the last 8 years, been a team that has been known for their players waiting their turn and that turn usually came when they were upperclassmen and seniors?

 

So with that the case, how would coaches know what kind of talent Highlands had this year when just like years past no one outside of Highlands knows until that season because most of the starters especially in skill positions like QB are usually first time starters as seniors.

 

So coaches around the area knew how good bench players were for Highlands is what you are claiming along with others when you all didn't even have a clue?

In my opinion, Dale was a great motivator and coach kids "up" better than most. I do think that is one thing that went with Dale when he left. I'm not saying thats a weakness of the current staff, just saying I feel like that was a strength of Dale. He could convince you that you could play with anyone that you WILL compete with anyone. So whether he had great talent or mediocre talent, they still had a chance!

 

Now time will tell whether or not this is a strength of the new regime. It's hard to tell with just one class. Is a coach not being able to motivate kids? Is it the class that has internal issues anyway? Is it just a class that no matter what you say, they are just cavalier. And I am by no means talking about individuals. I'm talking about a class. I have no idea, but I know it's probably too early to "tag" anyone or any system with something as we look for answers. We all know every class is different and sometimes the program takes on the demeanor of the senior class...especially when you have 30-35 seniors each year.

 

You have heard many that are close to the program suggest this group look in the mirror and control your own destiny. I think with that advice, you can think for yourself and get some hints what part of the problem may be with this group.

 

As I've said before, HHS has had very successful years in the past when the talent wasn't great, they were small or had a very tough schedule...and sometimes all three. I think the difference that I've seen this year is internal.

 

I will say it again...they have the ability to turn it around. But no one can do it for them at this point. They need to decide as a group what legacy they want to leave behind. If you turn it around and make a late run, all this crap talk and blame goes away. If you don't do anything about it...well then your legacy lives with you the rest of your life when you're a Bluebird.

 

I will disagree with something you said in here on several occasions and that is this "class". Are you really trying to say that one "class" is the reason for the record to be what it is? If so, I would say you are totally wrong on that. Did not realize that one "class" could have so much impact on a team sport where 11 play at all times. Past teams did not win or lose because of one "class". Think about that for a minute and I think you may see what I am getting at.

How would they know??? I would ask you...if you a head coach in an area...how would you not know??? If I were an AD and asked one of my head coaches if they knew what was going on with other programs in the area that we could potentially play and they said "I have no clue"...I may be looking for another coach. Simple as that. They know, trust me. But like I said, it makes no difference because we will NEVER know if it had ANYTHING to do with the scheduling or the acceptance to play HHS when BW dialed the phone. But when you have a coach that has been at a program for 15 years and never has HHS on the schedule, that brings up suspicions to some. I'm not saying I agree or disagree. I'm saying that could cause suspicions.

 

You know that HHS always schedules good teams. Heck, they haven't played anyone under a 6A school yet and they are technically a 4A school. Do you not think that BW didn't know that those teams were gonna be good this year?? That's why he scheduled them!! Why isn't Scott or Conner on the schedule? Or even NCC who is an arch rival of HHS in every other sport!

A couple years back, I maintained that HHS had a knack of scheduling "power schools" when those schools were down. I was (albeit mildly) cursed for the thought by a longtime, respected HHS supporter.

Funny how you nailed that. You do know though it's never Highlands doing what they claim others to do. It's always others guilty of that.

This is the very first post on this subject from any Highlands fan that actually makes sense and isn't riddled with conspiracy and chest thumping. This makes perfect sense.

 

For those that continue to think it's on all the other NKY teams and continue to believe Highlands in the past had nothing to do with not scheduling NKY teams,you may need to read JOAT's post.

So had a chance to watch some film last night with other father's and I have to say some of it is comical. There's really no rhyme or reason why we are 1-6. I read the Ft.Thomas matters article and in that they are using every excuse they can on why the team is losing. So we decided a couple of us would get together and watch some film. The first thing that sticks out is you bring players in and have them make a play or 2 then remove them, Second playing boy's like this does nothing hence the reason why we could be losing? Several player's stuck out while watching the films and they are 33,54,55,41,74,52,12,59,35,5,10,44,8,24,27,and 98 which is a beast. and I wonder why some are playing JV when they are obviously great players. We do not need these boy's on JV however they could be a huge asset on Varsity if used from what we have seen so why are they not being used at all or little at best? That would be the question I would be asking anyone who is in the know with this Varsity program?

Are they still getting together at the same place they have for years ? If you truly are being honest about what you post, and I doubt that, then all those on here that have been around the program know better....

 

...but I'll give you this, you try hard to make good copy....keep up the effort.

 

BTW: The wings are not that great there, you and some of those guys should consider finding a new spot, maybe that will fix the 1 - 6 season.
