First off RELAX.... I wasn't stating that it was true I was simply mentioning that it had been brought up previously that teams come calling when HHS is down. Also, nice job not missing an opportunity to bring up Cooper.

 

Then try and tell us how teams knew Highlands would be down? They have turnover every single year and if my memory serves me correctly it wasn't as if this hadn't happened before, you know, winning a state title and then have new starters at key positions like QB the next year only to do the same thing.

Comical! I for one called it for sometime! Old Bird might recall conversation a few years back. Some of the fan base is not surprised. Hoping for a turnaround. Still watching and wishing these boys well.

That statement is such garbage. I have seen some HHS fans try to toss that out as a reason why NKY teams scheduled Highlands.

 

It's garbage to think that any NKY teams knew HHS would be terrible this year. They are coming off of a State Championship title, their 7th in the last 8 years. That on top of the fact that Highlands traditionally has always been a senior driven team. Players wait their turn until they are upperclassman and can finally step on the field as starters and that more times than not comes when they are seniors.

 

For anyone to say everyone knew this would be a down year and that is why they scheduled HHS is the biggest farce I've ever heard. How on earth could teams in the area know Highlands would be so far down this year? Shoot, even their own fans didn't even expect it. The prediction thread going into the season had a 80+ to 20 in favor of Highlands not only beating Cooper, who by the way everyone knew was returning the majority of their starters from a state semi finalist appearance last year, but they predicted Highlands blowing out Cooper. This from their own fans. so if the people closest to the program didn't know it was going to be such a down year for Highlands, how on earth are the other NKY teams going to know Highlands would be so bad and that is why they scheduled them this year.

 

I get so tired of the arrogance surrounding some teams by some of their fans. Highlands won the state title last year people, it's not like they were Grant Co. coming into this season.

I agree with this...We have no way of knowing whether it was the motivator to schedule HHS or not. But there is no doubt that opposing coaches knew what was coming in the other schools. I coach a high school sport and I can tell you what every one of the teams in my area have coming in the near future. In fact, I try to schedule the teams that I know are going to be strong and tend to lean towards not scheduling the ones that will be down. Sometimes that "conference" thingy in my sport gets in the way of that, but I can tell you with pretty much certainty which schools will be up and down over the next 3-4 years.

I think others have answered your question as to how teams knew Highlands would be down. I am not as close to the system anymore as others so I can't give you the response you want.

A couple years back, I maintained that HHS had a knack of scheduling "power schools" when those schools were down. I was (albeit mildly) cursed for the thought by a longtime, respected HHS supporter.

 

So it's only other schools that engage in the practice?
