New football playoff format would pit Louisville schools...

Featured Replies

Take all of the smart, unathletic kids out of the best school in the state, and replace them with football players. GO RAMS!!!`

The solution has been in front of us this entire time. Might as well replace the great majority that are females, as well. GREAT WORK, GT!

Thanks Woody...

I wish though the KHSAA had given us details of how they came about the new setup. But then again we probably wouldnt have gotten to page 10 here at BGP. :D

I live in far western Kentucky and I don't have a problem with the east-west dividing line going right through Louisville ... in all honesty, the current setup (in my opinion) has some balance between east and west.

TBF's west-heavy alignment boasts no such balance.

I was just looking at Sandmans list of the schools and how a 6 class setup would roughly look

Of the Two Hundred and twelve ( 212 ) schools in the entire state of Kentucky - Manual is the sixth largest ( #6)

That puts them in the top .03 percentile of biggest schools I believe.

If you look at a "super" class of just the 16 teams - Manual is at just over the top 40% of that Mega group, size wise I believe.

If a school the incredible size of Manual openly suggests that it is completely incapable of playing the big 3 for three consecutive weeks without possible loss of hope?, injuries?, decay of the program?, or having a reasonable chance to ever advance in the playoffs?, etc? .....

and this is indeed the fact,

then perhaps we should do something to remove those teams from our midst, or make them have 2 teams, or handicap them in some way. (of course I'm being overboard T & X fans;) )

It's just hard to believe these big schools have such a defeatist attitude

Woody we don't have a defeatest attitude. How many teams have played X or T or H as tough as Manual?

Your size arguement is shallow, it doesn't include all the other aspects that create a great program. GT's anaylsis also isn't that far off, Manual is a school of Bill Gates and Clay Akins rather than jocks. The numbers advantage isn't as real as you might think.

Let the debate begin.

R1-D1 Barren, Christian, Graves, Greenwood, Marshall, Owensboro, Apollo, Daviess

R1-D2 Warren Central, Grayson, Henderson, Ohio, John Hardin, North Hardin, Central Hardin, Meade

R2-D1 Bullitt Central, Butler, Iroquois, Manuel, Male, PRP, St. X

R2-D2 Ballard, Eastern, Fern Creek, Seneca, Trinity, Southern, Nelson

R3-D1 Boone, Ryle, Conner, Holmes, Dixie, Scott

R3-D2 Scott Co., Woodford, Oldham, Shelby, Campbell, Simon Kenton

R4-D1 Clark, Bryan Station, Henry Clay, Lafayette, Dunbar, Tates Creek

R4-D2 N. Laurel, S. Laurel, Montgomery, Lincoln, Whitley, Madison Central

I could care less... but I'm not sure the schools in bold really fit into your districts as well as you think. Plus the western districts have 7-8 per. I think there would be a better way to even things out.

It may mean the big game is week 4, and would change little for a public in NKY or WKY as we would have to beat two Louisville teams just to get to the finals, but would it not get you your desired result of only ONE Louisville school in the final and yet leave the classes alone?

The funny thing is that people were ticked that it was a gurantee for a Louisville school to make the finals...so they split us up that way there was a chance that NO Louisville team could get in. I guess that backfired.

Manual is the ONLY school in Kentucky to play all Big three members in the regular season. We are not avoiding them.

This just really hit me.....

Manual IFF they were to win state, would've most likely played the Big III six times....if that doesn't get you ranked nationally nothing would.

then perhaps we should do something to remove those teams from our midst, or make them have 2 teams, or handicap them in some way. (of course I'm being overboard T & X fans;) )

So playing along with your scenario...let's say they make us split up in two, taking our 120 players and making two teams out of them.....Isn't our top 60 players still going to be enough....or would they have a say on who goes to which team

I'm away for a day and things seem to get worse.

Well 02Ram54, you said noone presented a good layout. I've got one for you. We debated the other night about this perfect setup that you think we had. But just as you seem to avoid Woody's questions, so did you on my questions.

I pointed out that the current alignment, even though some of you wanted to make it out that it was geographically perfect and even, it was in fact unbalanced at 24 teams in the West and 30 teams in the East. My premise is that it was designed that way to get the Louisville schools on opposite sides to help steer an all Louisville championship. You scoffed. Others also present the 54 teams as split 27 on each side East and West, but they are not. I am presenting you below the districts in the same numbers as the KHSAA has it now, with 30 teams in one side and 24 in the other side. Except I put 30 in the West and 24 in the East. They are geographically balanced and put all Louisville teams in the West. Which I can't imagine anyone could look at these and feel they are any less fair or geographically off balance than what it is now. I laid them out just as they are now as far as format goes, Districts of 8,8,7,7 and 6,6,6,6 as the number of teams in the respective districts, only I flipped the West and East with the numbers. If the East could have 30 teams why not the West?

Do you know where some of these schools are?

Rather than playing in the districts they're in now, where Oldham County and Shelbyville are 20 miles from their opponents, they'll play opponents about 90 miles from them. Can they do it? Do teams in other districts do it if they have to? Sure. But it's stupid for them to do it when they have logical dancing partners in the county next door.

Why in the WORLD would Simon Kenton play schools in Lexington rather than Northern Kentucky? They belong in that district. Just like Henderson should be playing Owensboro (sister counties.)

You can fit them in where you want them. But you can't make them make sense the way the current bracket makes sense. It's not just about the numbers.

A further point:

What does TBF's bracket HELP?

Does it reduce driving distance? NO. Many teams have to drive further than before. Overall, there is much greater distances involved with these unnatural pairings.

Does it preserve natural opponents? NO. Henederson versus Owensboro. Nelson County versus John Hardin (No matter what you want to think about Bardstown and where it is located, it's just about due South from my house.)

Does it keep districts coherent? NO. Put these schools up on a map, and you'll see that some schools are torn away, geographically, from the districts that make sense. That are viable in the current district alignments.

So what DOES it help? It puts Louisville on one side of the state. It doesn't help anything else, it hurts other important aspects of making logical district pairings, but if that's the only thing that matters, I guess it's a smashing success...

So playing along with your scenario...let's say they make us split up in two, taking our 120 players and making two teams out of them.....Isn't our top 60 players still going to be enough....or would they have a say on who goes to which team

Id rather have the academics you mentioned - thats what schools are for. Athletics is about particpation and competing. If someone hammers you in one particular sporting event, that means nothing negative personally for you(or whoever lost). I've always said that the losing team might actually have the higher caliber "people" who go on to succeed in life.:thumb:

I'm coming in late ... is this 4A only, or across the board?

I'm trying to do the geography..... I'll get back when I figure this one out. I can't imagine it would impact teams worse than they already are, but I'll try and draw it out.

OK, I did the leg work, anyway you slice and dice it, geographically the 4A districts and regions are fair and proper IMO. If you don't believe it, do the leg work. I never supported the current alignment, cause in my ignorance, I thought it had to have been better before. Well, it wasn't. This is geographically speaking the correct districts and regions IMO. Also, ther are 3 western ky 4A districts and two Louisville 4A districts. There is no good way to make all of Louisville in one side of the bracket. Even though many people want them to be.
