Well, it's one thing to have an opinion. But to blatantly accuse me of something that has no basis in fact ... well, I choose not to just idly take that.

Same result in 3A. Thats why there is a 4A. I suppose that is why there will be a 5A or a 6A. The beat goes on...and on....and on....

From 1959 to 1974 Louisville teams won every 3A title. 4A started in 1975. However I also noticed that every runner up was also from Louisville as well, making me think that 3A very well could have only been Louisville teams at that time.

Prior to 1975 there were only 3 classes and 3A was comprised of only Jefferson County schools. Starting in 1959, the Louisville metro area was divided into a City division (Atherton, Central, DeSales, Flaget, Male, Manual, Shawnee, St. Xavier & Trinity) and a County division (Butler, Durrett, Eastern, Fern Creek, Seneca, Southern & Waggener). Initially, the championship consisted of the Louisville city champion playing the Jefferson County champion. Over the years, as more schools joined, regions were formed and eventually were split into districts. The individual district winners played each other to determine the two teams (still city and county champions) that would advance to the 3A title game.

 

So to answer your question, all champions and runners-up from 1959-1974 were from Louisville.

Because if you balance it out by moving three Louisville schools to the west side, you end up with a major imbalance among the schools in the two Louisville districts. The east-west numbers discrepancy has little to do with Louisville ... it has to do with the fact that there are more 4A schools east of Louisville than west and directly south of it. It's 22-18 by my count.

 

Here's your main point and it seems to me your argument is to keep Louisville the same as it is....this would continue to mean the Louisville districts were split to keep them away from each other until the finals. Irregardless of your comments regarding my post, this is what I (and I'd bet most others outside of the Louisville contingent) took from your point.

 

Split the schools so each region has 13-14 teams, each district 6-7 teams. Keep district opponents as geographically close to each other as possible to reduce travel expenses and don't play politics with it (which is what happens now). Play your first two rounds intra-district if you want to continue the cost-saving. After that, do a blind draw and involve all teams but then have the games played at a neutral site somewhere inbetween the two teams involved. It doesn't have to be a college, just a suitable high school stadium would suffice.

And I live in the far eastern part of the state and support a 2A team. As far as politics deciding what district a team plays in, in 2A, Powell and Estill County both lobbied to be moved out of Breathitt County's district. The KHSAA obliged their request and placed them into Russell's district (region 3, district 6) giving the district 8 teams. Region 3 district 5 has 5 teams. How is this balanced especially considering Powell and Estill are both about as close to the NKY district as they are to Russell's? Why not bump one or both into that district to balance out the numbers? This is but one example where the KHSAA nasn't exactly used good logic, IMO.

Here is the problem that we seem to be having. No matter what anyone says your mind has been closed on this issue from the very beginning. Louisville means money, no more no less. I am not listening "lalalalalalalala." That is just about how it sounds here. While other alignments could balance the number of teams on the east and west sides none offer the ease of travel that the current one does when it comes to leaving town for playoff games. Nelson County playing Oldham in the same district makes as much sense as Trinity and North Hardin in the same district. The biggest issue here is that no one else outside of Louisville likes the idea fo 2 Louisville teams in the finals. I honestly wonder if the same ire would be raised if Lexington were the city in question.
