New football playoff format would pit Louisville schools...

Featured Replies

Are there 27 4A teams to fill the other side???

There are 8 districts now. If it makes you happy, throw us in the other side and pick or create a district with the same travel time as us to Louisville. If forcing Louisville to play themselves is the goal, my scenerio below would do it without impacting the current classifications. Unlike some schools who would wine about playing Tand X in back to back weeks where neither one would mean a state championship, I'm the one advocating it for the sake of keeping things as close to the way they are as possible.

I don't disagree with what you say. Just seeing how it would work...

I'm trying to do the geography..... I'll get back when I figure this one out. I can't imagine it would impact teams worse than they already are, but I'll try and draw it out.

If you want to go geographically north to south, the state's three largest cities are in the north - Louisville, Lexington, and Covington. 4A north on one side would be Lexington and Louisville only. And if you think the Manual people are whining about the current system, multiply that by 20 on how the Lexington people would feel about being in a Louisville district or vice versa.

Instead of crying they should just be happy theyve been able to avoid those 2 as much as they have all this time.

Manual is the ONLY school in Kentucky to play all Big three members in the regular season. We are not avoiding them. To further that point we have played the best team in the west Warren Central for the last few years and are now adding out state powers like Brentwood Academy.

Our route was previously tougher than ANYONE else in 4A, we are not upset because some sort of "ideal situation" was changed, we never had it lucky, therefore we don't choose to be happy when we get the shaft.

I know that geographically there is more distance east to west, but how about football 4A wise? Layout the districts and tell me why you can't other than, that's historically the way it's always been done....
How else could you do it?

I'm away for a day and things seem to get worse.

Well 02Ram54, you said noone presented a good layout. I've got one for you. We debated the other night about this perfect setup that you think we had. But just as you seem to avoid Woody's questions, so did you on my questions.

I pointed out that the current alignment, even though some of you wanted to make it out that it was geographically perfect and even, it was in fact unbalanced at 24 teams in the West and 30 teams in the East. My premise is that it was designed that way to get the Louisville schools on opposite sides to help steer an all Louisville championship. You scoffed. Others also present the 54 teams as split 27 on each side East and West, but they are not. I am presenting you below the districts in the same numbers as the KHSAA has it now, with 30 teams in one side and 24 in the other side. Except I put 30 in the West and 24 in the East. They are geographically balanced and put all Louisville teams in the West. Which I can't imagine anyone could look at these and feel they are any less fair or geographically off balance than what it is now. I laid them out just as they are now as far as format goes, Districts of 8,8,7,7 and 6,6,6,6 as the number of teams in the respective districts, only I flipped the West and East with the numbers. If the East could have 30 teams why not the West?

Let the debate begin.

R1-D1 Barren, Christian, Graves, Greenwood, Marshall, Owensboro, Apollo, Daviess

R1-D2 Warren Central, Grayson, Henderson, Ohio, John Hardin, North Hardin, Central Hardin, Meade

R2-D1 Bullitt Central, Butler, Iroquois, Manuel, Male, PRP, St. X

R2-D2 Ballard, Eastern, Fern Creek, Seneca, Trinity, Southern, Nelson

R3-D1 Boone, Ryle, Conner, Holmes, Dixie, Scott

R3-D2 Scott Co., Woodford, Oldham, Shelby, Campbell, Simon Kenton

R4-D1 Clark, Bryan Station, Henry Clay, Lafayette, Dunbar, Tates Creek

R4-D2 N. Laurel, S. Laurel, Montgomery, Lincoln, Whitley, Madison Central

Remove Holmes from R3-D1. Returning to 3A in 07-08...

Not at all concerned about 07-08.

This is totally a hypothetical to bolster the argument that it is feasible and fair in comparison to lay the districts out with all of Jefferson Co. on one side of the bracket.

The KHSAA chose to split them and left the East side with 30 teams vs. 24 teams on the West side. I just flipped the team totals East West to show that they easily could have put all of the Jeff. Co. schools together and they didnt.

They didn't because the members wanted Louisville in opposite sides on the bracket. Thanks for the breakdown though. Good to see it in print!!! :thumb:

I was just looking at Sandmans list of the schools and how a 6 class setup would roughly look

Of the Two Hundred and twelve ( 212 ) schools in the entire state of Kentucky - Manual is the sixth largest ( #6)

That puts them in the top .03 percentile of biggest schools I believe.

If you look at a "super" class of just the 16 teams - Manual is at just over the top 40% of that Mega group, size wise I believe.

If a school the incredible size of Manual openly suggests that it is completely incapable of playing the big 3 for three consecutive weeks without possible loss of hope?, injuries?, decay of the program?, or having a reasonable chance to ever advance in the playoffs?, etc? .....

and this is indeed the fact,

then perhaps we should do something to remove those teams from our midst, or make them have 2 teams, or handicap them in some way. (of course I'm being overboard T & X fans;) )

It's just hard to believe these big schools have such a defeatist attitude

Take all of the smart, unathletic kids out of the best school in the state, and replace them with football players. GO RAMS!!!`

Your Welcome.

I guess my question is why did they want them in opposite sides? My thoughts is for the cash. But when I suggested they intentionally did it, I was met with ridicule that I was a conspiracy monger.

I also find it prepostorous to think that the blind draw fell as it did. UNLESS, they only drew 1-4 in one draw and 5-8 in another draw. If so, the chances become much greater that you could have a draw produce what is being published. It also would make more sense to limit the draw in this manner, so as to remove the possibility of a matchup of say Pikeville vs Trigg Co. in round 3. Region 1's farthest opponent could only be Region 4 and likewise Region 5 could only Draw Region 8 as a farthest opponent. This way you keep a East and West setup for a championship. I dont know if this is how they drew it, but if so, it COULD EASILY fall as it did.

Be careful though. I feel the earths axis starting to tilt :scared:

You know it does go right through a certain highway in Louisville

Exactly :thumb:

in making this change they may have wanted to keep the initial rotation rather "limited" to eliminate extreme possibilities this 1st year.

I had predicted they removed #7/8 from the #1/2 draw but it could have been even more limited as you said. That would make the result VERY plausible, rather than the conspiracy some feel.

Great work TBF
