Let's keep this objective, and not personal.

This is NOT an ideal situation for many. But, realistically, if there was an ideal situation for ALL then there truely would be a level playing field, and no one would win, nor would anyone lose.

 

Given the alternative immediately preceding (Prop 20), this is more equitable, IMO. Splitting Private and Public post season play would do more to set back Kentucky football than just about any other solution that can be devised.

 

According to the article, this is only definite for one year, and IF it goes to multiple years, rotation will be a factor. I'm sure much revision and work will be done to make things better as a new plan is formulated. It could mean more classes, it could mean refining this format, or it could be something else altogether.

 

I do think that kudos should be given to the KHSAA for trying to do SOMETHING, and not just let the boiling cauldron of discontent boil over.

 

I think that everyone should see what happens this year, and what happens after this trial.

 

It's not going to be easy for anyone in Louisville, Manual fans. I know less for you than for X, T and H. But, you know what's ahead, and you have all summer and fall to prepare to do the best you can during the season. At this moment, we're ALL on the same page. The season hasn't started and we all have a long row to hoe to get to Papa John's. The best thing to do is put the angst and energy into figuring out what we can do to win....one game at a time. It definitely doesn't help to look ahead in this format.:thumb:

What are the odds that St.X or Trinity will win the 4A title, keep more of the catholic dollar, build new beautiful stadiums, build more tradition, play twice a year in Papa John stadium, play before 37,000+ fans in the largest high school rivalry game in the country, play in and out of state powers in great locations (Paul Brown stadium...), and pound someone else in the state final all the while cheering for each other when we are not playing one another (o.k. that last part may not always be true)?

 

So when does the season start? It's a good thing the kids still play the games and the adults don't.

The difference being, X and T will now keep the gate for their meeting, instead of the KHSAA getting it. So I don't see your point.

 

I think this is being done as a stop-gap while they work out 5 and 6 classes.

 

The KHSAA probably sees an X/T Championship as being somewhat in jeopardy given the support for prop 20. Whoever represents the non-Louisville side of the bracket in the title game will bring a big crowd (county schools usually bring a good crowd--especially in a big game). And whoever makes it out of the other side (and X or T have an excellent chance to "run the gauntlet" with their numbers) will also bring plenty of fans.

MY point obviously is that the 2 best teams don't traditionally match up always in the final game - they frequently play BEFORE. and you know what... the best team usually wins no matter when they play:thumb:

Sure it has an impact, but so did Shawn Alexander and he didn't play for a state title.

FYI there were only 11,000 at St. X-Scott County and I would think Scott has one of the biggest followings in 4-A.

Apperently they only care when their teams are the ones that have to play them. Which is the point of this, to keep the publics from reviewing the public private debate again in the future by keeping the publics divided. Meanwhile competition overall suffers in 4A.

and I could pick any number of 3A teams that have as little or even worse chance of beating those 3A powers.

Of course you could....just like you could pick some 3A teams that COULD DO IT......the fact is, you couldn't pick a 4A team THAT COULD, anywhere.

I DON'T WANT EASIER. But the way I see it, they play each other, decide who the best of their best is, and then we match up. If we beat them, are we not the best then?

If so many in Jeff Co are against this new structure involving a blind draw, then they surely are for discontinuing the blind draw in the sweet 16 as well, ... correct? I mean how many times have the best 2 teams not played for the state title in basketball and the 'real' title game (according to some) was in the earlier rounds?

 

Playoffs starting in the same district? What other sport does that? Oh yeah, ... most all of them (baseball, basketball, softball, etc). Not saying I am for that, ... I like the excitement of playing teams outside ones district in the playoffs AND regarding the 2 teams I cheer for in 4A (the 2 Laurel Co teams), they have teams inside their district R4 D8, that are further away then some of the teams in the other regions district, R4 D7.

 

Don't get me wrong, ... I am not sure I like this either. But don't worry, no matter how you cut it, there will a 4A Jeff County team in the title game regardless. But remember that in the rest of the football state outside of L'ville, there are other schools who have historically had very tough roads to get the carpet every season as well (eg. Rockcastle, Bell, Cov Cath, Highlands, etc), sometimes from within their own districts as well.

 

But we shouldn't fret. When it goes to 5A or 6A in the very near future it will all change again anyway and we will all have new things to complain about. So at least we have that going for us, right!?! :thumb:

How am twisting it? I went down through your post and tried to address it exactly. Please post my statements and show exactly how they twist what you said or mean. I acknowledged your thought on the private/public split didnt I?

I asked if I was reading your statement of weakening 4A correctly - You really have not stated a response directly to that as far as I can see.

Is it your belief that 4A is weakened b/c of 1 extra week of practice may be lost by SOMEONE? - You guys do not deserve the extra week anymore than any other team - sorry.

Is it your belief that 4a is weakened b/c SOME kids/coaches will get discouraged at the prospective schedule and just give up? If so, then I would suggest football be dropped at those schools. Zillions of kids all over the country play football b/c of reasons besides how far they think they can advance in the playoffs. Some never make it at all.

Is it your belief that 4A is weakened b/c those 2 best teams aren;t playing the last weekend? Thats not a valid point.

What have I missed? tell me and I can agree , acknowledge, or offer a differing viewpoint.

 

 

Why do you feel that the #3/4 teams in HHS & CCH's own district aren't under as big if not more of a disadvantage than the non big 3 school in Lou??

How can they expect to advance any distance every year when they are facing their road? Are you saying that those teams don't deserve as much right to be able to advance? Is it b/c you think Manual really has a chance to win and thsoe teams don't truely have a chnace so it doesnt matter?

i really want to know why you just 'seem" to dismiss this side of the debate/

Again I will respond with stuff I have already stated you just chose to read over. You have my opinion completely sideways. I think this will weaken the competition because now only three teams outside of Louisville are going to play against what is year in and out the toughest competition headed to the playoffs, which means less exposure state wide to that level of competition, also the Louisville teams not in the big three are going to have less exposure to more equal competition from out in the state as well. Louisville teams not in the big three are still competitive against many good 4A teams out there like Warren Central, Meade Co. Nelson Co. John Hardin, Dixie, Scott Co. Dunbar, but it is unlikely that we will ever know this season unles they play regular season how the nonbig three Lousivile teams stack up. Sometimes the Louisville teams are over rated, sometime the teams out in the State are, but now the whole lot will only be judged against the big three, and that is sad to me. Also I think that witout that parity and equal competition Football will become less and less interesting in public schools over the past ten years I have seen Manual grow from having NO student interest to having great crowds, and I think that many Louisville schools could grow the sport if there was more parity.

Over time this means less exciting games and the same effect of St. X or Trinity winning the title. By removeing a buffer game from the Louisville competition you are decreasing the possiblity that one of the Louisville area teams that are in the top ten talent wise may catch lightning in a bottle the same as say Scott or Dixie or Meade Co. have in the past and knock them out and advance successfully, now the Louisville teams other than the big 3 are going to have to do that week after week and that changes the dynamic of the game, giving schools with more depth an advantage. It is like having to play the top ten schools in the same regional NCAA bracket instead of seeding them. By playing that district method you are going to limit whole areas to less practice only one school in the district is going to advance reguardless of talent level. That may not be of vital importance but when you consider that prime time to bring on the freshmen, it is a factor. So what this seems to do is make the rich richer and the poor poorer at first and then it will lower the bar across the board in MY OPINION. That will effect parity.

 

As far as the 3A teams you are questioning me on, I am dismissing nothing, I just don't know enough about that situation to make an educated statement so instead of showing my ignorance and sticking my nose into a topic I know very little about I will pass on that. I know about 4A and I will stick to what I know about. Manual' situation has little to do with my opinion on this topic, to be honest I am not expecting anything of Manual this season we had a huge turn over and it will be a surprise this year to me what shakes out. Manual is the where I am from so it will be the central point of referance for me but not the reason I feel the way I feel. Manual may do well or not even make the playoffs this season, so that has nothing to do with my distain for this idea. This is more likely to effect PRP than Manual this year I would expect.

I'm guessing thats the score of the Trinity / Boone game. If so whats your point we all know that they lost. But is that really going to stop Shawn Alexander from being an influence on young kids in Kentucky. His success in the NFL has put him in a position to where he likely the favorite player / hero to many kids in the NKY area and beyond. I doubt that fact that his team failed to win a state title will influence some young kids opinion much. They will still want to emulate SA when they are throwing the football around in the backyard.
