New football playoff format would pit Louisville schools...

Featured Replies

Time for football math, kids!

When I say that Male, X and T have owned 15 of the last 18 slots to play for the title, I mean that only three other schools have even made it to the state finals in the past nine years. On EITHER side of the bracket

When you say 13 of 19, and they come from the same district, well, to paraphrase a favorite line:

Alarm bells are ringing, Woody.

If they come from the same district, then you mean that two schools have owned 13 of the last 19 slots for one side of the bracket, correct? As in, for the past 19 years, there have been 25 out of 38 other chances at the state title?

Well, we'll try it your way for my schools, because we certainly wouldn't want to compare apples and oranges erroneously would we?:sssh:

I'm not sure when the switch occured, so we'll just go from '90 onward.

West East
2005 St. X Trinity
2004 St. X Scott Co.
2003 St. X Trinity
2002 Male Trinity
2001 Male Trinity
2000 Male Trinity
1999 St. X Bryan St.
1998 Male Tates Crk
1997 St. X Trinity
1996 Nelson Co. Paul Dunbar
1995 St. X Henry Clay
1994 Trinity Boone Co.
1993 Male Shelby Co.
1992 St. X Boone Co.
1991 St. X GRC
1990 Warren C Trinity

On the Western side of the bracket, the Big 3 own 14 of the last 16 slots (A whopping 88%.) Big difference from 13 of 19 (68%.) If you take out Trinity versus Boone in '94 (which I want to say marks the last year of Louisville vs the World) it's just two teams from the same district owning 13 of 15 slots! Overall, the Big 3 own 21 of the last 32 slots. That's a majority, some of the time from when it was Louisville versus the world and the rest of the state was promised a slot.

As we can clearly see, it's not comparable.

Well it seems NOW you are trying to argue about no longer having an all Louisville final - is that right?

Thats fine, I have NOT been arguing that point. I don't care if it's an Louisville final. I've said elsewhere that X/T have had great games in the finals, and they've had really great games at all other times- if they're gonna have to beat each other, they can do it in any round.

For those wailing that it's not the 2 best teams in the finals, so that somehow lessens the whole thing - you are wrong, Dead WRONG! Every other class has pitted teams from opposite halves of the state in the championship game for eternity??? Surely there is no one out there that thinks the 2 best teams are always situated in opposite halves of the state? Please reveal yourself if you actually believe that:lol: The other 3 classes have had great games year after year - just as good as the 4A overall, that cant really be argued. Sure the B&B final was probably THE greatest, but year in and year out the 2 best teams almost always do NOT meet in 3 of the 4 classes and there has been no hue & cry from the masses - only now from some folks who 'seem" to view 4A as the only real football in KY. It is NOT.

So thats my take on the all-Louisville finals issue. it has nothing to do really with your Manual problem

Thats why I listed the 3A history - because you were saying the road for individual teams (like manual) was so much harder than for the 3A teams that you stated "can" do it. I still havent heard your reply as to who those teams are? and who has actually done it? Rather than respond to that question you changed the discussion to debating an all-Lou final.

Like I said in another thread, welcome to North Hardin, John Hardin, Meade and the rest of that districts world. That is what they have dealt with for years. You had to beat Male, St. X and if you got to the finals, Trinity.
Yeah, same thing as Manual had before too. Like I said in the other thread.

But like I also said, the order matters. So it's not the same now. Instead of the former situation for Manual, which is mostly identical to what it was for those schools you mentioned, we now go from:

Male

R2D3

X

Male

R1

Trinity

to

Male

Male

X

Trinity

R1?

Semistate2

And there's a big difference there.

The difference being, X and T will now keep the gate for their meeting, instead of the KHSAA getting it. So I don't see your point.

I think this is being done as a stop-gap while they work out 5 and 6 classes.

I didn't think individual schools got to keep their playoff gate money or split it like they would a regular season game. I understood that it is a shared gate, being split by the KHSAA mandated playoff procedure, no matter if it is round 1 or round 5.

The point being that the crying heard out of Louisville is that these 3 are the top teams every year and it's just not fair to make it so hard on them:sleep:

Last year's Lex Cath squad beat three of the schools you've mentioned:

Highlands, Cov Cath and Rock

in a row on their way to the state title.

Now please point out to me when the last time ANY TEAM has beaten X Male and Trinity all in a row on the way to a state title?

You keep getting it wrong.

Next year, we WILL have this guantlet in front of us. Please read the article at the top of this thread a little more closely.

As to your other point, I addressed it. Manual has been close, but can't get over the hump against X. They beaten every other team but X, even though they've come close. If Manual could get past X in the playoffs, they would have a shot agaisnt the other teams. They have a chance. But in this case, there is just no chance.

Next year the 2 Lou districts are to be rotated against different opponents is the way it reads to me - is that not correct?

If so that would mean you have 2 playoff games against your fellow district opponents - If you qualify for the playoffs.

And going back to the No Ky 3A comparison; the #3/4 step children there have the exact same gauntlet as you - and their first 2 playoff games are against teams having won 13 of last 19 titles. technically, the first 2 playoff opponents (potentially) for Manual have not won that many titles - hence your first 2 opponents (say X & M) have NOT been as dominant as HHS & CCH (going by the #'s)

Hear that X fans? You guys aren't all that hot... ;)

Besides, once again you're showing how you don't follow Louisville 4A.

Manual went through an intense down period when they became the nerd school, going from State Finalist in 1988 to a decade-long stint as local whipping boy. Things have been turned around in the last 5 years, and we're rebuilding a program with more tradition than almost any other in the state (2 National Titles, thank you.)

The current Manual program should be judged from 2001 onward, with Joe Nichols begining his term as head coach. Since then we've been knocked out by current district foes three of our four trips to the playoffs.

It sounds like you guys are on the right track:thumb:

You can judge your program anyway you like, but until you actually beat them in the playoffs then it would probably help your program more to keep building rather than complain about a ONE year bracket that right now it seems you are not quite talented enough to even undertake -unfair or not. when you are good enough to actually play those 3 tough playoff games THEN arguing the point makes some sense:p

Since you repeatedly say I don't know enough about Louisville 4A(Ive lost track of the # and why you feel the need to keep doing so?) it only seems fair to now question you knowledge & awareness of anything "outside" of your lou 4A. You have made zero acknowledgement or understanding of the 3A comparisons noted.

So the #3/4 in No Ky 3A (whom Im comparing to Manual situation) will have to beat: Highlands, Cov Cath, Lex Cath and/or Rock to get the finals?

Wow, you are right - that is so much more fair for those #3/4 teams in No Ky

I don't recall EVER saying anyone has or even will beat the big 3. You point is?

The same as it has been the whole time... No one in this entire state, including the Big 3, could win that string of games.... but a team in AAA could win the AAA equiviliant, AND HAS.

Thanks, folks, Goodnight!:sssh::walk:

Is that from a favorite cartoon character?

My question is: Why change it? Seriously, does it make everyone THAT mad that St. X and Trinity happen to be able to slug it out in their respective roads more often than others?

Still can't acknowledge the comparison, eh?

The Ram debate has been about Manuals "unfair" gauntlet

I say it's no worse than the #3/4 stepchildren to CCH & HHS for many years

I never said or suggested anyone can/will beat the big 3. I hope:thumb:

My debating partner tries to use Lex Cath as a comeback (an obvious new powerhouse -in a DIFFERENT district)

He just can't seem to bring himself to acknowledge the very similar comparison between No Ky 3A teams facing CCH & HHS in their district and Manual dilemna of having X & M in their district.

That 3A district has more titles than X & M (past 20yrs?) AND the East side of 3A have vastly more titles than Manuals side in 4A I believe.

Hence other teams have a MORE difficult time winning a state championship
